MSA’s Michael Cellucci Sends Verbal Commitment to Milligan for 2022-23

Michael Cellucci from Matthews, North Carolina has announced his verbal commitment to Milligan University in Tennessee for the 2022-23 school year.

“I am extremely honored to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Milligan University. Coach Scarth and the team were very welcoming upon my visit there and the campus has a great feel to it. I want to thank God, my family, my teammates and coaches for getting me to this point. Go Buffs!”

Cellucci is a junior at Weddington High School. He swims club with Mecklenburg Swim Association and specializes in distance free and breaststroke. He competed for Weddington at the 2021 NCHSAA 3A State Championships and placed 11th in the 500 free.

Cellucci has had a very successful spring 2021, swimming to lifetime bests in the SCY 50/500/1000/1650 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM and the LCM 200 free, 100 back, 100/200 breast, and 100 fly. At the MOCS Championship Finale in March, he earned a ton of PBs while finaling in the 500 free (10th), 100 breast (21st), 200 breast (13th), 200 IM (19th), and 400 IM (7th).

Milligan University competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and the NAIA. The Buffs won their first-ever men’s conference title at the 2021 Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships. The men broke 3 program records and 3 conference records at the meet. Cellucci would have been an A finalist in the 500 free, 400 IM, 100 breast, and 200 breast and he would have been Milligan’s top scorer in the 1650 free.

The 2021 NAIA National Championships were canceled because of COVID-19.
