USA Swimming announced the hiring of two new strategic leaders for its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council on Friday, bringing on Michelle Steinfeld as Secretary & General Counsel and Leland Brown III as Program Director.
The DEI Council, along with the Black Leadership in Aquatics Coalition (Team BLAC), were formed in September of 2020. The DEI Council’s objective is to “bring together a group of diverse individuals to consult, deliberate and provide strategic DEI feedback to USA Swimming.”
“I am proud to welcome Michelle and Leland to the team,” USA Swimming President & CEO Tim Hinchey III said. “Their corporate experiences and passion for their roles will be of tremendous benefit to this organization and our membership. They are talented, hardworking individuals who will continue to make us better leaders and better global citizens.”
Steinfeld has a law background, having most recently managed the litigation portfolio for public oil and gas company Ovintiv. Prior to that she had spent time at law firms Davis Graham & Stubbs and Covington & Burling LLP.
Steinfeld will assume the role of Secretary & General Counsel, taking the role over for Chief Administrative Officer Lucina McRoberts.
Brown III joins USA Swimming from Promise Prep in Indianapolis, where he recently served as Director of Operations.
As Program Director, Brown III will be the “organizational leader responsible for enhancing the development of a vision and strategy to diversify USA Swimming membership.”
Good riddance to Lucinda McRoberts. It was a disgrace that she was employed by USA Swimming for as long as she was.
Sorry Guerra. She is still on staff, and she was promoted.
My God… What a terrible person!
