Six Air Force Water Polo Players Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Six Air Force water polo players were named to the Western Water Polo Association all-academic team, as announced today by the league office.

The six selections tie as the fifth most in school history. 

Graduated seniors Jack Alexander, Jason Hires and Ian Shepherd were joined on the team by rising seniors Zach Shelly and Anthony Tolbert and rising junior Alex Hirjoi.

Hires (management major) was named to the all-academic team for the fourth straight year. Shepherd (biology) and Tolbert (electrical engineering) were all named to the team for the third straight season. Alexander (systems engineering), Shelly (management) and Hirjoi (aeronautical engineering) were named for the first time.

To be eligible or WWPA All-Academic honors, a player must have competed in at least 50 percent of his team’s games during the current season, carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, be classified as a full-time student for all terms of attendance, and have completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his institution.
