Race Videos: Watch All 7 Australian Records So Far At 2021 Olympic Trials

2021 SWIMMING AUSTRALIA OLYMPIC TRIALS

As of day 4 finals at the 2021 Australian Olympic Trials, 7 national records have already been broken. 2 of those records have come from Ariarne Titmus who first lowered the 400 freestyle mark to a 3:56.90 and followed that up with a 1:53.09 200 freestyle. Both of those swims were fast enough to get her on the 2021 Australian Olympic roster and got her within striking distance of Federica Pellegrini‘s 1:52.98 200 freestyle world record from 2009 and Katie Ledecky‘s 3:56.46 world record from 2016.

Speaking of world records, Kaylee McKeown managed to snag the 100 backstroke mark with a 57.45 to get under Regan Smith’s former mark of 57.57. The swim was fast enough to qualify McKeown for the Olympic squad and certainly strengthens her case in her quest for Olympic gold.

The other 2 women’s Australian records thus far at the meet have come from Madeleine Gough and Emma McKeon. Gough lowered the women’s 1500 freestyle record during day 4 finals with a 15:46.13 while McKeon hit a 55.93 to become the first woman from Australia to crack 56 in the event.

On the men’s side, Brendon Smith managed to set a new Australian record in the 4oo IM with his swim of 4:10.04 which also gave him a spot on the Olympic roster. Following him, Zac Stubblety-Cook made a powerful statement in the men’s 200 breast with a 2:06.28 to take the record from Matthew Wilson who previously held it at a 2:06.67 former world record.

I almost teared up when the commentators said “come on son, get under it”. So sad for Wilson.
