We sat down with sprinting legend James Magnussen to unpack the 100 free final and ended up unpacking the entire Olympic Games. We talk about most of the big races that have happened so far and specifically Australia’s golden moments. We are used to seeing the Aussie trials come in March and then them not race again until the Games, but James is relieved that the system has finally changed and it seems to be paying off, with stars like Kaylee McKeown and Ariarne Titmus maintaining their dominance from Trials to the Games.
Maggie notes that Australia has one a gold medal each day of competition so far and has a good shot to continue the trend for the rest of the meet, perhaps putting them in a position to challenge the US for total swimming golds.
But MOST importantly, Magnussen points out that Dean Boxall, who we all now know is quite passionate about his athletes, would be a perfect fit for the NCAA in America. Well commentors, now is your chance. Which University in the NCAA would you want to see Boxall coach?

Coleman and James have more faith in Arnie’s 800 than I do. Her confidence must be shaken after that relay. I think it’s an easy win for Katie and I doubt it will be within a second.

Boxall is marmite. His style would put a lot of people off. But if it suits an individual it is successful. Reminds me of Mel Marshall but set to 11.
I don’t know, Boxall maybe a little too intense for the college scene.
Boxall to Washington State women’s team. Then we’ll find out if he can coach a team or just a dream swimmer. Bob Bowman great for Phelps but nowhere near as good coaching full college teams.
Probably reflects my own ignorance, but I always find it surprising that Magnussen, who had this public image as the broiest sprint bro in the history of sprint bros, is actually really eloquent and one of the most knowledgeable ex-pros when it comes to current swimming.
And I’m starting a Boxall to Texas rumour right now.
The media amped it all up crazily……. Magnussen never said he’d win. He is very well spoken and a good commentator.

Wasn’t referring to overall medal count, just the events that they have been dominant in… which have been numerous.
