WATCH: Dressel Ties 100 FL Olympic Record, White/Bacon Go 1-2 in 200 BK Heat

Day 6 Prelims Recap

Early this morning in the U.S. but later in the evening in Tokyo was the sixth preliminaries session of the Tokyo 2020, featuring the heats of the women’s 800 free, men’s 100 fly, women’s 200 back, and mixed 400 medley relay.

Highlighting the session was American Caeleb Dressel out of the 100 fly, who stormed to the top of the semifinals seeds with a time of 50.39, tying the Olympic record.

Shortly before that, American teammates Katie Ledecky and Katie Grimes finished 1-2 in their 800 free prelims heat to advance onto the Olympic final. 15-year-old Grimes swam her first sub-8:20 effort in the making, becoming the No. 2 U.S. 15-16 performer all-time and No. 4 U.S. performer in history.

Into the women’s 200 back, U.S. representatives Rhyan White and Phoebe Bacon also finished 1-2 in their prelims heat to advance onto the semifinals, with White seeded in second and Bacon in fourth.

looked like dressel only tried on the 3rd 25m

Dressel just taunting Joseph with tying the Olympic record in the prelims. Took it out easy, coasted into the wall at the 50m and cruised home.

Rumor has it Schooling got PISSED after Dressels swim and went a 50.38 in the warm up pool right after
