Futures Qualifier Amy Riordan Commits to South Carolina for Fall of 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Amy Riordan from Martinez, Georgia has verbally committed to swim at the University of South Carolina. Riordan is an extremely versatile athlete, as she’s competing at the Futures-level in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and IM events.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the university of South Carolina! I’m super stoked to work under such a great coaching staff there! I’d like to thank my parents, coaches, friends and teammates who helped make this possible! go gamecocks and spurs up!❤️🤙🏼”

Riordan swims year-round with the Aiken-Augusta Swim League. She recently competed at the 2021 Georgia LC Senior State Championships and was a 5-time A-Finalist. She posted new personal best times in the 50 freestyle (27.77), 50 backstroke (31.63), 100 backstroke (1:05.78), 200 backstroke (2:22.08), and the 100 butterfly (1:04.48).

Riordan is a rising senior at Augusta Prep in Martinez, Georgia. In 2019, she won Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) state titles in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard butterfly. As a freshman, she was awarded “Augusta Chronicle’s Girl Swimmer of the Year.”

Her best times in SCY are:

EVENT:
100 freestyle 51.87
200 freestyle 1:49.54
500 freestyle 5:49.03
100 backstroke 56.90
200 backstroke 2:03.72
100 butterfly 56.93
200 IM 2:08.82
400 IM 4:30.60

Times Progression:

Riordan’s linear progression within the past two has been impressive. She’s become competitive at a high level across several events in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019 2020 2021
100 butterfly 58.28 57.32 56.93
100 backstroke 1:00.20 58.39 56.90
200 freestyle 1:52.04 1:51.40 1:49.54
200 IM 2:15.22 2:11.76 2:08.82
400 IM 4:57.23 *4:57.23 4:30.60

*No recorded 400 IM times from the 2020 season.

Based on the team results for the 2020-2021 NCAA Season, Riordan would’ve ranked 2nd (tie) in the 200 freestyle, 2nd in the 500 freestyle, and 3rd in the 400 IM.

While she’s not in scoring contention at the SEC-level as a rising senior, her progression rate sets her up to have a great collegiate career at South Carolina.

South Carolina finished 11th out of 12 teams with 276 points at the 2021 Women’s SEC Swimming and Diving Championships. South Carolina recently hired Jeff Poppell, former Women’s Head Coach at the University of Florida, as their new Head Coach.

Riordan joins recent commits Claire Dafoe and Sterling Burd as members of the incoming class of 2026.
