Garret Green Decides To Stay In-State, Changes Commitment To Texas A&M

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Garret Green, who verbally committed to Tennessee last September, will switch to Texas A&M for the Fall of 2022.

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to Texas A&M University. I would like to say thank you to my family, teammates and coaches for getting me here. Gig’em”

Green swims year-round with Blue Tide Aquatics in Kingwood, Texas. Green is an extremely versatile athlete that swims a variety of events, but he specializes in freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke events. Green has times in several events that are fast enough to qualify for national-level meets such as Winter Juniors, Futures, US Open, Summer Juniors, and Summer Nationals.

Most recently, Green competed at the Speedo Summer Championships (West) in Irvine, California. Green swam 7 events, dropping new personal best times in the 100 free, 50 back, 50 fly, and the 100 fly. His most impressive swim was his 100 fly, where he dropped a 54.23, which is only .04 seconds off the 2020 US Olympic Trials cut. For reference, Green was a 56.78 in the summer of 2019.

His best times (SCY) include:

  • 50 free – 20.79
  • 100 free – 45.11
  • 200 free – 1:39.13
  • 50 back – 22.94
  • 100 back – 49.16
  • 100 fly -47.80
  • 200 IM – 1:49.89

Green swims for Kingwood High School out of Kingwood, Texas. As a junior, he won the 100 fly (47.80) at the Texas UIL 6A State Championships with a new personal best time. Green also finished 3rd in the 100 back (49.19), just off his personal best of 49.16 from December of 2020. On Kingwood’s relays, he split a 21.40 on the fly split in their medley relay (2nd), and 44.04 in the 100 free anchoring their 1st place 400 free relay. Notably, both of his relay splits were the fastest in the field. Kingwood finished 2nd overall at the state meet, 2 points behind The Woodlands.

Green’s performances at the Texas State Championships earned him NISCA All-American status in the 200 medley relay (15th), 100 fly (8th), 100 back (39th), and the 400 free relay (5th). NISCA awards All-American status to the Top-100 performers in high school events across the United States.

Texas A&M University is a Division I program that competes out of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Texas A&M placed 4th at the 2021 SEC Championships and 10th at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Green’s current best time in the 100 fly just placed outside of the scoring heats at SECs.

Green’s 400 free relay split from the Texas State Championships (44.04), on the other hand, would’ve out-split Clayton Bobo (44.09), who was Texas A&M’s anchor at the 2021 SEC Championships. With the departure of Shaine Casas on a transfer, the Aggies’ strong incoming class for the fall of 2022 will help continue the momentum that they have built over the last few years.

TAMU has signed on Connor Foote, a Wave I Olympic Trials qualifier, and Baylor Nelson, who is the #1 ranked-athlete in the Class of 2022. The Aggies have also picked up several international studs for the upcoming school year, including European Juniors Champion Batuhan Filiz (TUR) and European Juniors bronze medalist Kaloyan Levterov (BUL).
