At the Orange & White intrasquad meet on Friday, we got to catch up with Legendary Texas men’s coach Eddie Reese. Among the things we discussed (like flutter kicking with snorkels) was Carson Foster‘s 2k for time in practice, where the sophomore dropped a sub-19 minute performance. Reese shares that Foster is looking the best he ever has and that come March, the rest of the NCAA may need to watch out.
Coaching legend Eddie Reese knows all the nuances surrounding this swim – the swimmer and his specialties, the suit, the point of training they’re at in the season, how it compares to decades worth of elite swimmers before him, etc. Outwardly it may not seem *extraordinarily* impressive (or at least not article-worthy) but if Eddie’s impressed, I’m impressed.
take an upvote… cause I can hear this photo.
Carson is just proving he has the stamina to finish a swim. Michael Andrew, take notes.
does this mean he will pop best times two weeks after NCAAs?
Keep it classy…..
Is people really comparing a mid workout effort in September by an IMer with the most talented distance guys at their prime? Wtf, guys, chill.
Well if it’s just an ordinary workout swim by an elite swimmer than why post an article about it? By comparing it to distance swimmers people are attempting to determine if it’s really newsworthy or anything worth getting excited about. I don’t think it is but I find it interesting to hear some of the harder sets/swims top swimmers are doing in practice.
Its the Phelps effect. We compare every good IMer with him subconsciously and that dude was def capable of staying with world class distance and anything else except 50 free.
Carson is a victim of this comparison and every male US IMer will cop that probably until Phelps is forgotten.
Phelps isn’t gna be forgotten till humans go extinct

I like this picture of Jonathan Roberts on the left and is that Ben “Electric Fire” Rodgers (Team Manager) in the background?
An incredible coach working with a generational athlete that is an incredible person. Looking forward to awesome things out of Carson!
I mean, he’s incredibly talented, but a generational athlete? That’s absurd to say at this point.
