Britain’s James Hart Commits to Oakland University for 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

James Hart from Plymouth, England has announced his commitment to swim and study at Oakland University beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year.

I am truly honored to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Oakland University. I must thank everyone involved in the recruiting process and of course my swimming club in the UK, Plymouth Leander, without them and my coaches I would not have had such an amazing opportunity. I have been made to feel so welcome at OU already and I look forward to arriving in the fall of 2022.  Huge thanks to everyone who has supported me so far in the process.”

Hart swims for Plymouth Leander out of Plymouth, England. He has not competed since March 2020 where he swam at the Edinburgh International meet and achieved a season-best time in the long course 100 butterfly (56.12).

He was the British age group champion in the 200 butterfly from 2018-2020, and also was age group champion in 2019 in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

His best long course times with short course yard conversions are:

  • 100 butterfly: 55.69 (48.90)
  • 200 butterfly: 2:03.43 (1:48.67)
  • 100 freestyle: 55.19 (48.27)
  • 200 freestyle: 1:56.78 (1:42.32)

Oakland University is a public university located in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The school is a member of the Horizon League in NCAA Division I.

The Oakland men won their eighth straight Horizon League Championship this past April. Redshirt sophomore Christian Bart earned Athlete of the Year and Swimmer of the Meet honors.

Based on his converted best times, Hart would have scored in the A final of the 100 and 200 butterfly and the B final of the 200 freestyle. His 200 butterfly converted best time also puts him at seventh all time in Oakland school history.

His best time converted in the 100 butterfly would have had him second on the Oakland roster during the 2020-2021 season. He would have been third on the roster in the 200 butterfly and sixth in the 200 freestyle.

Hart will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Sofus Balladone, Kieron Bezuidenhout, and Micah Scheffer.
