Brendan Burns, Madison Murtagh Named Big Ten Swimmers of the Week

Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Brendan Burns, Indiana
Jr. – Berwyn, Pa. – Conestoga (Pa.)

  • The 2021 Big Ten Swimmer of the Championships and 2020 Big Ten Freshman of the Year contributed to three wins to help Indiana defeat Northwestern 173-120
  • Set a pool record and earned an NCAA B-cut time of 1:43.18 to win the 200-yard butterfly
  • Won the 200-yard backstroke (1:45.33) and contributed to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay
  • Earned an NCAA B-cut time (47.06) in the 100-yard butterfly
  • Garners his first career Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Jack Franzman (Jan. 20, 2021)

Men’s Diver of the Week
Jake ButlerMinnesota
Jr. – Seal Beach, Calif.

  • Claimed both the one-meter and three-meter titles in Minnesota’s win over Purdue
  • Registered NCAA Zone qualifying scores of 363.90 in the one-meter and 401.18 in the three-meter
  • Earns the second Diver of the Week honor of his career
  • Last Minnesota Men’s Diver of the Week: Jake Butler (Oct. 16, 2019)

Men’s Freshman of the Week 
Carson Tyler, Indiana
Moultrie, Ga. – Colquitt County (Ga.)

  • In his first collegiate meet, set a pool record at Northwestern in the three-meter dive with an NCAA Zone quaifying score of 408.00
  • Also registered an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 345.60 in the one-meter event
  • Contributed 12 points in Indiana’s 173-120 win over Northwestern
  • Earns his first Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Men’s Freshman of the Week: Michael Brinegar (Jan. 30, 2019)

Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Madison Murtagh, Penn State
Sr. – Longwood, Fla. – Lake Brantley (Fla.)

  • Helped lead Penn State to a victory over West Virginia with first-place finishes in the 200-yard (1:51.84) and 500-yard freestyle (4:57.12)
  • Touched first in the 200-yard freestyle by more than one second and the 500-yard freestyle by more than seven seconds
  • Garners her first career Swimmer of the Week award; also earned Freshman of the Week honors three times during the 2018-19 season
  • Last Penn State Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Ally McHugh (Oct. 10, 2018)

Women’s Diver of the Week
Anne Fowler, Indiana
So. – Burke, Va.

  • Contributed 13 points to Indiana’s 175-125 win over Northwestern
  • Won the one-meter dive with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of  327.20
  • Finished second in the three-meter dive with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 341.90
  • Earns the second Diver of the Week honor of her career and her first this season; was also named Freshman of the Week on Jan. 20, 2021
  • Last Indiana Women’s Diver of the Week: Anne Fowler (Jan. 27, 2021)

Women’s Freshman of the Week
Brearna Crawford, Indiana
Whitford, New Zealand – Mount Albert Grammar (New Zealand)

  • Registered 17 points for Indiana in the Hoosiers’ win over Northwestern
  • Touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:12.99
  • Earned an NCAA B-cut time in the 100-yard breastroke (1:01.82)
  • Earns the first Freshman of the Week honor of her career
  • Last Indiana Women’s Freshman of the Week: Anne Fowler (Jan. 20, 2021)
