Lehigh Women, Rider Men Claim Victories In Split Dual

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After getting a victory on Friday night against West Chester, the Lehigh women’s swimming and diving team used the short rest to their advantage, completely dominating Rider, 219-60 Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool. With the victory, the Mountain Hawks improve to 3-0 to start the season for the first time since the team started the year 6-0 in 2019-20.

Lehigh reeled off an incredible 16 first-place finishes on the afternoon against the Broncs, with three for Sarah Hardy and two each for Danielle PrekopAnn Foley and Sarah Gill on the diving board.

“I’m just so proud of how this team competed today and have grown in the first two weeks of the season,” said head coach Rob Herb. “They have really stepped up their performances in a big way. Sarah (Hardy) had three major victories with strong times and Sarah (Gill) continued to perform outstanding on the boards. Couldn’t be prouder of this group.”

The Mountain Hawks opened the day with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of Hallie WilsonMaddie Dorish, Hardy and Foley swam to a time of 1:47.68.

Prekop picked up the first of her two wins in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.90. She also was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.71).

Sarah Manthorp took home first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.27, while Grace Rogowski came in second at 1:57.40.

After getting a relay victory in the first leg of the 200 medley, Hallie Wilson got an individual win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.99.

In the 200-yard butterfly, it was Julia Stevens who came out on top with a time of 2:06.73.

Foley picked up the first of two wins in the 50-yard freestyle (24.07) with Noel Fresa finishing in second at 24.94. Foley also won the 500-yard freestyle event (5:10.01) with the Mountain Hawks also getting a second-place finish for Maggie Mikalic (5:18.02) and third place for Willa Werwaiss (5:19.43).

For the second night in a row, Sarah Gill cruised on the diving boards, picking up a victory in the one-meter dive with a score of 222.82 and a victory in the three-meter dive (240.82).

Noel Fresa got her 100-yard freestyle victory with a time of 54.04.

Sarah Hardy won three events in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.99), 100-yard butterfly (57.53) and 200-yard IM (2:08.61). Liz Olszewski rounds out the women’s individual wins with a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.77.

The Mountain Hawks concluded the meet with a 1-2-3 finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Foley, Fresa, Manthorp and Rogowski swam to a time of 3:38.12 to take first. The team of Ashley Carper, Mikalic, Stevens and Sarah Horne finished second at 3:41.82.

Lehigh takes a brief break before returning to Jacobs Pool on Nov. 19 to host archrival Lafayette.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team came up just short of improving to 2-1 on the season, falling to Rider 150-138 Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool.

The Mountain Hawks had seven first place finishes on the day and fell by only 12 points to the Broncs. Glenn Lasco picked up two of the victories, while Owen ThomasConnor Drucis and Connor Goodyear had one each.

“It was a huge team effort for this group with big wins for three of our main competitors,” said head coach Rob Herb. “The team filled in and made this meet very close until the end. Great day.”

The day started with a win in the 200-yard medley relay for the team of Owen ThomasConnor SeptElvin Lee and Aiden McCurley with a time of 1:33.38.

Thomas got yet another first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.53.

After Connor Drucis led the Mountain Hawks against West Chester on Friday night, he came in first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.03).

Lasco’s two victories came in the 50-yard freestyle (21.08) with a second-place finish for Aiden McCurley (21.70) and the 100-yard freestyle (46.69).

Connor Goodyear’s time of 4:43.86 in the 500-yard freestyle was the fastest of the day and then the Mountain Hawks concluded the meet with a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:06.09 for the tandem of Caleb EberlyJoe HuberKeagan Casey and Goodyear.

Lehigh will take a brief break in the schedule before returning home on Nov. 19 to host Lafayette in The Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network and Coordinated Health.

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team won a second-straight dual-meet to open the 2021-22 season, defeating Lehigh 150-138 Pool Saturday evening. The Mountain Hawks fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss.

The Bronc men won nine events in the meet.

Kyle Iorizzo (Norwood, NJ/Old Tappan Regional) got the first Bronc victory of the day in the 1,000-free, finishing in 9:48.26, 13 seconds ahead of the field.

Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) continued his strong start to the season in the 200-free, winning in a time of 1:42.23 and the 200-IM in 1:54.42.

David Cooper (Spring, TX/Klein Oak) won the 100-breast with a winning time of 57.89 and completed the sweep of the breast events with a winning swim of 2:07.04 in the 200.

Christian Overton and David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) swam one-two in the 200-back with times of 1:52.94 and 1:54.00.

Nicky Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy) swam 51.87 to win the 100-fly.

In the diving competition, Sean Binning (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) won the 3-meter with a score of 253.20 and Marcas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) won the 1-meter with a score of 246.52

– Bobby Irwin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) took second in the 200-fly.

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team dropped a dual-meet 219-60 on the road at Lehigh Saturday evening.

Lehigh claimed victory in all 16 events in the meet. The Broncs had six individual second-place finishes.

Kayla May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was second in the 100-back with a time of 59.08.

Allison Stewart (Newtown Square, PA/Lower Merion) finished second in the 100-breast with a time of 1:07.93 and the 200-breast with a time of 2:31.00.

Kylie McMahon (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s) took second in the 200-fly with a time of 2:10.91, the 100-free, touching the wall at 54.62, and the 100-fly with a time of 57.94.

NOTES & QUOTES
– The 200-medley relay team of May, Stewart, Giavanna Lupi (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), and McMahon swam 1:48.94 for second.
– Ashlee Limbacher was third in the 1,000-free, stopping the clock at 11:06.85.
– Aleena De Sir (Fredericksburg, VA/Massaponax) finished third in the 50-free with a time of 25.47.
– May swam 2:10.65 in the 200-back to take third and 2:13.45 for third in the 200-IM.
