VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Green Bay men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept their tri-meet Saturday afternoon, edging out Valparaiso and Youngstown State on each side. The Phoenix men bested Valparaiso 220-59, and Youngstown State 148-146. The women took down Valparaiso 234-56 and Youngstown State 155-144.

“The team spirit and energy remains at a very high level,” said Interim Swimming and Diving head coach Tom Stover. “Incredible effort and excitement by the whole team. When you win meets that are this close, it becomes obvious that every race mattered, every athlete on the team who scored even one point made a difference in the outcome. A very hard fought but satisfying meet in many ways and especially a win over a conference foe.”

After strong showings last week, Ben RedmanMax Boehnlein, and Miles Rohrbaugh all swept their events Saturday. The women also had multiple standouts, with McKenna Metropulos sweeping her events and Faith Eilertson winning every breaststroke event at the meet.

OTHER MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Green Bay men opened the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as the quad of Jeremiah Mansavage, Boehnlein, Rafe Dolan Peterson, and Redman won their second straight race, touching the wall in 1:31.86.
  • Boehnlin continued the Phoenix’ winning ways, finishing first in the 100-yard breastroke with a final time of 56.06.
  • Redman took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a 20.38.
  • Rohrbaugh swept both diving events, accumulating 285.6 points in the one-meter and 298.05 points in the three-meter.
  • Redman also took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a finals time of 45.45.
  • Boehnlin grabbed the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:03.18.
  • Boehnlin also swam a 1:53.93 in the 200-yard IM, good for the event’s top spot.
  • The Phoenix men finished the day with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quad of Peterson, Carson Beals, Mansavage, and Redman finished in 3:06.21.

OTHER WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Eilertson took home the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.35.
  • Metropulos’ first win came in the 50-yard freestyle which she finished in 24.78.
  • Metropulos grabbed her second win of the day in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 53.57.
  • Esther Oswald grabbed the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.26.
  • Eilertson continued her big day with a 2:29.05 in the 200-yard breaststroke, good for first in the event.
  • Alli Misialek touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 59.48.
  • Kaitlyn Sims finished first in the 200-yard IM, swimming a 2:15.63.
  • The GB women wrapped up their big day with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quad of Sofia OrellanaJacqui Rude, Metropulos, and Kaleigh Gale touched the wall in 3:37.12.

Green Bay will look to ride this momentum back to Dorschel Natatorium on Friday, Nov. 12 when they host St. Norbert.

Valparaiso, Ind. – The Youngstown State men’s and women’s swimming and diving team beat Valparaiso and dropped tough contests to Green Bay on Saturday afternoon at the Valparaiso Aquatic Center.

The men beat the Barons by a score of 220-68 and the women beat Valpo by a 223-69 margin. The Phoenix nipped the men by a score of 148-146 and the women, 155-144.

Winning events for the women were Kayla Wrasman (3m diving), Dasha Toth (1m diving), Hailey Clark (500 free/1000 free), Olivia Wilcox (100 back), Natalia Moreno (200 fly) and Aubrey Whitaker (200 free).

Wrasman won the three-meter with a score of 242.18 while Toth took first in the one-meter with total of 236.55. Tess Weiskopf was second in the one-meter dive with a total of 230.32. Toth picked up her first career victory in the one-meter events with a score of 236.55.

Clark won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:50.93 and the 500 free clocking a time of 5:19.87. Whitaker finished with a time of 1:56.99 in the 200 free to finish first. Moreno took first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.70. Wilcox took home first in the 100 back with a time of 59.88 seconds.

Whitaker was second in the 100 free with a time of 54.23 seconds. Averi McCarthy was second in the 200 back with a time of 2:12.54. Saige Kemeny was second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:29.35 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.14. Josie Preski was second in the 500 free with a time of 5:24.93.

Winners for the men were Aleksa Radenovic (100 fly/100 back), Fabian Gines (500 free/200 free), Soma Albert (200 back), Jasper Liekens (200 fly) and Gavin Webb (1000 free).

Webb won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:43.41 and was second in the 500 free with a time of 4:43.79. Gines won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.30 and took home a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.45. Radenovic won the 100 back with a time of 51.15 seconds and the 100 fly with a time of 49.68 seconds. Liekens won the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.70. Dominic Bono was second in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:50.95.

The women took first place in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:51.02.

The Penguins are next in action on Saturday against Niagara and Saint Francis (Pa.). The tri-meet starts at 1 p.m.

The Valpo swimming program hosted a tri-meet Saturday afternoon at the Valparaiso Aquatic Center, welcoming Green Bay and Youngstown State to town. Senior Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) posted the teams’ top individual finishes with a pair of second-place showings.

How It Happened

  • May touched the wall second in both of the freestyle sprints on Saturday. The senior recorded a time of 21.44 in the 50 free and 46.96 in the 100 free.
  • Senior Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) came home third in the 100 breast with a time of 59.98, while the 400 free relay squad of senior Derek Eidson (Ventura, Calif./Ventura), sophomore Brett Little (Princeton, Iowa/North Scott), junior Adam Chwieros (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) and May placed third as well.
  • Eidson led Valpo in a pair of events, pacing the Beacon contingent in the 200 free (1:50.58) and the 100 fly (54.21).
  • Sophomore Drew Wilson (Sugar Grove, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) was also the highest-placing Valpo finisher in two events, leading the way in the 200 back (2:07.04) and the 200 IM (2:04.08).
  • On the women’s side, Valpo had a pair of individuals register third-place finishes. Senior Chiara Robinson (Castle Pines, Colo./Rock Canyon) placed third in the 50 free with a time of 25.51 and freshman Haley Hume (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) notched a third-place showing in the 200 back with a time of 2:14.48.
  • Freshman Bridget Pollard (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) led Valpo in a trio of individual events Saturday. The rookie posted times of 2:19.26 in the 200 fly, 1:02.82 in the 100 fly and 2:22.50 in the 200 IM.
  • Hume swam a team-best 2:04.26 in the 200 free to go with her 200 back performance, while fellow freshman Sara Strauss (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) posted the team’s fastest time in the 100 breast (1:10.21) and the 200 breast (2:36.59).
  • Valpo’s 200 medley relay squad of sophomore Kenzie Conn (Celina, Ohio/Celina), Strauss, Pollard and Robinson swam to a third-place finish as well.

Next Up

Valpo will step away from competition next week before its big mid-season meet, heading to the SIU Invitiational in Carbondale, Ill. Nov. 11-13.
