Buffalo Women Blast Past Toledo To Extend Win Streak To 10

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women’s swimming & diving team (1-0, 1-0 MAC) defeated the Toledo Rockets (0-2, 0-1 MAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls won by a score of 198-102, extending their win streak to 10.

THE POOL
The Bulls were hot out of the gate as they took first and second in the 200 medley relay. Maddy McDonough, Katie PollockJillian Lawton, and Toni Naccarella won in 1:43.10. Their teammates of Mia NaccarellaMichaela MorgusClarice Fisher, and Ellie Duley claimed second in a time of 1:45.13.

It was the underclassmen that took over the 200 freestyle. Leading the way was freshman Sawyer Bosley who finished second in 1:53.34 with classmate Abigail Malmstrom finishing in fourth in a time of 1:57.18. Sophomore Marij van der Mast finished in a time of 1:54.75 for third-place.

The Bulls swept the podium in the 200 backstroke with McDonough (2:03.09), M. Naccarella (2:06.02), and Malmstrom (2:06.73) finishing 1-2-3.

Fisher went on to win the 100 breaststroke in 2:04.28 with freshman Amanda Neeb right behind finishing in second in 2:04.32.

The dynamic duo of T. Naccarella and Lawton gave the old one-two punch in the 50 freestyle. T. Naccarella won in 23.22-seconds as Lawton claimed second in 23.41-seconds. T. Naccarella also won the 100 freestyle in 50.87-seconds.

van der Mast won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:06.39.

Lawton also picked up another win in the 100 butterfly in 55.88-seconds. Neeb was just .08-seconds behind for second-place and Fisher claimed third-place in 56.07-seconds.

The team finished the day off by winning the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Allison Stcokwell, T. Naccarella, Lawton, and Pollock had a winning time of 3:28.72. M. Naccarella, Neeb, A. Wood, and Bosley finished second in 3:30.46.

THE DIVING WELL
UB once again dominated the 3-meter dive as they swept the podium. Victoria Franz continued her strong performance as she won the event with a score of 331.88. Patricia Arceri finished second with a score of 254.85. Freshmen Presley Dorsett (239.78) and Kaylee Donovan (217.05) finished third and fifth, respectively.

Franz also won the 1-meter dive with a score of 309.60, a season-best. Arceri finished in second-place with a score of 256.50. Dorsett would complete the sweep with a third-place finish with a score of 245.40. Donovan finished with a score of 205.28, good for seventh-place.

UP NEXT
The Bulls are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 6 as the team travels to Athens, Ohio to square off against the Ohio Bobcats (1-1, 1-0 MAC). The dual meet is set to start at 11 a.m. in the Ohio University Aquatic Center.

BUFFALO, NY – The Toledo women’s swimming and diving team opened its Mid-American Conference competition against reigning MAC champs Buffalo on Saturday, falling to the Bulls, 198-102.

“Our swimmers and divers performed very well against a very strong competitor,” head coach Brie Globig said. “I gave the team small goals to accomplish throughout the meet and we were able to accomplish most of them. Their performances continue to improve, and we’re headed in a great direction.”

Toledo won five events in the pool. Junior Lauren Kilgore claimed three of those victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.11), 200 breaststroke (2:20.70), and 200 IM (2:06.84).

Junior Jovana Duric claimed the victory in the 1,000 freestyle (10:28.89) and finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:06.97).

Junior Kennedy Lovell won the 200 freestyle event with a time of 1:51.84. She also took second in the 100 freestyle (51.91) and third in the 50 freestyle (23.72).

There were six other top-three finishes for Toledo swimmers against the Bulls.

Toledo’s next event is its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 6 against Ball State. Race time is scheduled for Noon at the Student Recreation Center and Pool.

Toledo Top-3 Finishes
– 200 medley relay team of Madeline Blakely, Kilgore, Sydney Conrad and Lucie Morris finished third with a time of 1:46.51.
– Senior Samantha Ekleberry finished second in the 1,00 freestyle (10:43.07) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:15.55).
– Freshman Lucie Morris finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.88.
– Sophomore Sydney Conrad finished third in the 200 butterfly with a 2:06.82 mark.
– The 400 freestyle relay team of Kendra Polewski, Blakely, Duric and Morgan Schuld finished third with a time of 3:45.31.
-On the diving boards, freshman Kassie Gutierrez led the Rockets with a fourth-place finish with a 226.35 mark in the one-meter dive. Sophomore Ryli Harden led her team in the three-meter dive with a fourth-place finish and a 223.35 score.
