Women’s Recap

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Ayden Chanin and junior Nicoletta Kalavantis both won two individual events, to lead the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team to a 153-147 victory over Maine at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 2-2 on the season with the win, while the Black Bears fall to 1-2 overall.

Chanin claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.41) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.93), while Kalavantis came in first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.71) and the 200- yard individual medley (2:14.30). Other first place finishes for the Crusaders came from junior Madalyn Piasecki in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.50), freshman Ciara Scamby in the three-meter diving (233.77) and sophomore Greta Walting in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.78).

Holy Cross will return to action next weekend, when it takes part in the Harold Anderson Invitational in Kingston, R.I., from Nov. 19-21.

Men’s Recap

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Charlie Nascimben won three individual events to lead the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team to a 159-134 victory over Maine at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 1-3 on the year, while the Black Bears fall to 1-1 overall.

Nascimben won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.63), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.64) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.77). Freshman Patrick Walsh also had a strong day, taking first place in the 100-yard backstroke (53.98) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.24). Other first place finishers for Holy Cross were senior Michael Brennan in the 100-yard butterfly (52.47), sophomore Chris Clow in the one-meter diving (212.77), sophomore Troy Dalton in the three-meter diving (199.05), freshman Rory Hess in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.24) and freshman Luca Moscetti in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:17.40).

The Crusaders will return to action next weekend, when they take part in the Harold Anderson Invitational in Kingston, R.I., from Nov. 19-21.

WORCESTER, MASS. – The University of Maine men’s and women’s swim and dive teams competed against Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.

On the women’s side, they came away with a narrow defeat against the Crusaders, 153-147. Among the top performers were:

Kayla Loughman: First in the Team 200 Medley Relay (1:49.84), First in the Individual 50 Free (24.97), First in the Individual 100 Free (54.33) and First in the Team 200 Free Relay (1:39.81).
Madison Edwards: First in the Team 200 Medley Relay (1:49.84), First in the Individual 100 Back (1:01.08), Third in the Individual 200 Back (2:11.70) and First in the Team 200 Free Relay (1:39.81).
Morgan Bui: First in the Team 200 Medley Relay (1:49.84), Second in the Individual 100 Breaststroke (1:07.51) and First in the Individual 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:28.12).
PhilAnn Dixon: First in the 1-Meter Dive (252.23) and Second in the 3-Meter Dive (232.19)
Maggie White: First in the Individual 1000 Free (10:52.83), Third in the Individual 500 Free (5:23.76) and Fourth in the Team 200 Free Relay (1:44.10).

On the men’s side, they also came up just short in their efforts, a 159-134 defeat. Among their top performers were:

Nick Scott: First in the Team 200 Medley Relay (1:37.80), Second in the Individual 50 Free (22.65), Fifth in the Individual 100 Yard Butterfly (54.61) and First in the Team 200 Free Relay (1:28.26).
Kevin Arpin: First in the Team 200 Medley Relay (1:37.80), First in the Individual 50 Yard Free (21.93), Second in the Individual 100 Yard Free (48.03) and First in the Team 200 Free Relay (1:28.26).
Finn Devers: First in the Individual 200 Free (1:45.43), First in the Individual 100 Free (47.89) and Third in the Individual 200 IM (2:02.25).
Riley Clark: Second in Both the 1-Meter Dive (196.96) and in the 3-Meter Dive (209.02).
Kaden Kilger: First in the Individual 500 Free (4:55.05) and Third in the Team 200 Free Relay (1:29.89).

For both teams, they will next be competing at the URI Invitational on Friday, Nov., 19-Sunday, Nov. 21.
