Sprinter Gracie Cunningham Commits to Augustana (SD)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Gracie Cunningham from Papillion, Nebraska has announced her commitment to swim and study at Division II Augustana University (SD) beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I chose Augustana because of the athletic and academic opportunities, as well as the positive team atmosphere.”

Cunningham swims for Sarpy County Swim Club (SCSC) out of Bellevue, NE. In March, she competed at the Midwestern Swimming Senior Championships where she earned a 9th place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:02.58), 12th place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:14.93), 14th place in the 200 freestyle (2:05.30), and 16th place finish in the 100 freestyle (57.47).

Cunningham began her senior year this fall at Papillion Lavista High School in Papillion, NE. In Febuary, she competed at the Nebraka High School State Championships where she earned a 19th place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:01.99) and a 24th place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:02.95).

Her best short course yards times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 25.82
  • 100 freestyle: 55.18
  • 200 freestyle: 1:58.87
  • 100 backstroke: 1:01.03
  • 200 backstroke: 2:13.41

Augustana University is a private university located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The school is a member of the Northern Sun Conference. Head coach Lindsie Micko is in her sixth season as head coach for the Vikings.

The team finished fifth out of nine teams at the 2021 Northern Sun Conference Championships. Current senior Taylor Beagle captured three conference titles and led the team with 76 points. Beagle also represented the team at the 2021 NCAA Division II Championships where she scored 26 points earning a team 17th place finish.

Based on her best times, Cunningham would have made the non-scoring ‘C’ final of the 200 freestyle as well as the 100 and 200 backstrokes. She also has the potential to be on the team’s 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays as the conference scores more than one relay.

Cunningham will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Maggie Lombardi and Maija Kangas.
