Emmanuel College Swimmers Compete At World Champs

UAE, United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi – – – Emmanuel College alumnus Alex Sobers (Barbados) and Emmanuel College Junior Valentina Aloisio (Bolivia) both competed in the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), December 16 – 21, 2021. This was Sobers fifth World Championships and Aloisio first.

The 15th FINA World Swimming Championships were previously scheduled to be held in 2020 but were pushed back one year, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sobers competed in 2 events:  The 200 SCM free, finishing 33rd place overall in a personal best time of 1:46.91, setting a new national record for Barbados. The 100 SCM free, finishing 41st place overall in a personal best time of 48.81, setting another new national record for Barbados.

Aloisio also competed in 2 events: The 50 SCM breast, finishing 45th place overall in a personal best time of 34.11. The 100 SCM breast, finishing 39th place overall in a personal best time of 1:14.01.

Emmanuel Head Swim Coach, Allen Gilchrest, commented: “We are so proud of our swimmers, competing on the world stage, representing their countries at World’s is such a privilege, only a small percentage of swimmers ever get to experience. We are thankful to God for these blessings.”
