Tennessee Associate Head Coach Ashley Jahn on Weaving Joy into Swimming

In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman HodgesGarrett McCaffrey, and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.

We sat down with Tennessee’s associate head coach, Ashley Jahn. Jahn has been with the Vols for a decade now and it shows as she discusses her methodical approach to training. One big thing Jahn hits on that is unique about this season is the energy that the “COVID 5th year” swimmers bring to the pool deck. Jahn explains that getting that extra chance to improve has brought a lot of joy to those athletes, which in turn trickles down to the rest of the team.

Thanks for your concern – it was a 1.3 mile hilly walk. At my age, that’s a hike.

I love the idea of college coaches taking a hybrid approach and being able to work with most, if not all, of the team. Her take on another coach being able to see and explain something to one of the swimmers that resonates more with them is refreshing, and so in line with how we are understanding people learn. I’m sure it helps with the monotony of swimming as well.
