Italy’s Anna Marcotti Sends Commitment to UNC Asheville for Fall of 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Anna Marcotti, who competes for and trains at Gymnasium Pordenone in Pordenone, a province in northeastern Italy, has announced her commitment to swim at the University of North Carolina Asheville beginning in the fall of 2022.

I want to announce that I am verbally engaged with UNC Asheville.  I really like the campus, the environment and in particular the friendliness of the coaches and the wonderful team. I can’t wait to be there and star my American experience!!

Marcotti is a freestyle and butterfly specialist with converted times that are fast enough to make the ‘A’ final at the 2021 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships. Namely, Marcotti’s lifetime bests, when converted to yards, could have put her in the ‘A’ final at the 2021 CCSA Championships in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, as well as the ‘B’ final of the 100 butterfly.

Marcotti’s converted 100 freestyle time is less than 2/10ths off the current program record, while her converted 200 freestyle time is just 11/100ths away from the current program record. These lifetime bests, when converted, would rank Marcotti as the 2nd-fastest performer in program history in the 100 and 200 freestyles, 3rd in the 500 freestyle, 4th in the 50 freestyle, and 8th in the 100 butterfly.

UNC Asheville finished 4th in the team standings at the 2021 CCSA Championships, the highest finish in program history. Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins was also named CCSA Coach of the Year for the third year in a row. In October, Lykins and UNC Asheville achieved program-first victories over UNC Wilmington and Campbell, bringing their dual meet record to 5-0. The Bulldog women stretched their win streak to 6-0 in dual meets the following week with a victory over Georgia Southern. At the 2021 Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy in November, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte, the UNC Asheville women placed 2nd in the team rankings with 1006 points behind Queens, which won with 1358 points.

Marcotti joins Brianna Cottingham and Ava Kilpatrick as new-additions for the 2022-2023 season. The Bulldog women began the season with a 6-0 record in dual meets.  In October, UNC Asheville Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins was named the Competitor Coach of the Month.
