ATHENS, Ga. – Following a six-week competition break, the University of Georgia diving team returns to the tower this week as it heads to Knoxville for the Tennessee Diving Invitational, running Monday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, Jan. 6 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

The four-day event will provide Georgia’s divers with the opportunity to pick up additional Zone-qualifying cuts and accustom themselves with the site of next month’s SEC Championships. The Bulldogs will be joined by competitors from SEC rivals Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina, and Tennessee, along with divers from Miami (Ohio) and Wisconsin.

The meet will consist of traditional competitions in the 1-meter springboard, 3-meter springboard, and platform, with the top 12 prelim finishers advancing to the finals. Additionally, there will be a new team event in which three divers from each school will perform a combined six dives to compile a team score. Each team must include at least one dive from each of the three disciplines.

Live results from individual events at the meet will be available on DiveMeets.com.

In Georgia’s last outing at the Georgia Tech Invitational, sophomore Meghan Wenzel posted a strong performance, finishing second in the 1-meter and reaching the top-10 in the 3-meter and platform. Senior Zach Allen reached the finals in both springboard events, while freshman Rhett Hopkins placed seventh in the 1-meter.

Through the fall season, Wenzel has qualified for Zones in both springboards, with senior Tally Brown (3-meter) and freshman Nolan Lewis (1-meter) also earning a spot.
