FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU swim and dive team returns to the pool, Wednesday afternoon, when they host Miami (Fla.) at the FGCU Aquatics Complex.
The meet will begin at 2 p.m. with diving events running concurrently with the swimming events. The order of events is as follows:
200 Medley Relay
1,000 Freestyle
200 Freestyle
100 Backstroke
100 Breaststroke
200 Butterfly
50 Freestyle
100 Freestyle
200 Backstroke
200 Breaststroke
500 Freestyle
100 Butterfly
400 Individual Medley
200 Freestyle
Multiple Eagles hold the top time in the CCSA in their respective events led by senior Wiktoria Czarnecka (Lublin, Poland/Liceum NR 10 W Lublinie) who has three top times as she currently leads the field in the 50 free (22.77), 100 free (49.58), and 100 fly (53.18). Her time in the 100 fly is below the NCAA ‘B’ cut threshold.
Senior Petra Halmai (Dombovar, Hungary/Lanczos Kornel Secondari Grammar School) has also qualified for NCAAs as she has swum ‘B’ cut times in both the 100 breast (1:00.72) and 200 breast (2:09.78). Both are also the top times in the CCSA.
Junior Sara Niepelova (Piestany, Slovakia/Gymnazium Pierra de Coubertina/ECU) has the top time in the CCSA in the 400 IM at 4:22.83, which is also a personal best.
The Eagles also hold the top CCSA time in the 200 Medley Relay as the quartet of freshman Macy Mullis (Colbert, Ga./Madison County), sophomore Karen Arngeirsdottir (Reykjanesbaer, Iceland/Fjolbrautaskoli Sudurnesja), junior Julia Rodriguez (Gainesville, Fla./Buccholz HS), and senior Brittney Pike (Boerne, Texas/Boerne Samuel V. Champion/Arkansas) took first place in the 200-medley relay at the Eagle Invitational with a time of 1:42.50.
In diving, three Eagles have already qualified for the 1-meter zone championships as senior Megan Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada/Centennial CVI), junior Isabeau Keene (Demorest, Ga./Tallulah Falls School), and junior Delaney Nelson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) all posted scored above the 265-point standard at the Eagle Invitational. Wakefield led the trio with a score 286.28, followed by Keene at 278.63 and Nelson at 270.68.
On the 3m, junior Reese Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada/Bishop Macdonnelle CHS) leads the CCSA with a top score of 282.45.
In the all-time series, FGCU is 8-5 against the Hurricanes, but Miami has won four straight meets. This was supposed to be the second meet of the season between the two schools but the earlier meet scheduled for October in Coral Gables was cancelled due to the weather.
