For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Daniil Pancerevas from Klaipeda, Lithuania has announced his commitment to swim and study at Virginia Tech beginning in the 2023-2024 school year.

“I am so honored and blessed to be able to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Virginia Tech!!! I couldn’t have done it without my  family, friends, coaches. Thanks to Virginia Tech and Coach Sergio for this incredible opportunity. Big thanks to Coaches Jandra, Colin, and Natalja , who had been working with me for many years! GO HOKIES! #virginiatech #gohokies

Pancerevas swims for Klaipedos Gintaro (KLPG) out of Klaipeda, Lithuania. He most recently competed at the 2021 SCM Lithuanian Championships. There he finished third in the 50 freestyle (22.60), fourth in the 100 freestyle (48.88), third in the 200 freestyle (1:48.32), second in the 50 butterfly (24.48), and first in the 100 IM (54.40). His 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly, and 100 IM were all lifetime bests.

He holds numerous Lithuanian age group records. He holds the 14 and under age group records in the SCM 100 butterfly (56.88), 100 IM (58.87), and 50 freestyle (23.47). He also holds the 16 and under age group records in the SCM 100 butterfly (53.87), 200 IM (2:00.79), 100 IM (55.37), 200 freestyle (1:46.61), and 100 freestyle (49.21).

At the 2020 LCM Lithuanian Championships, he earned four 16 and under age group records. Those records included the 50 butterfly (24.62), 100 butterfly (54.69), 100 freestyle (50.22), and 200 freestyle (1:49.40).

His best short course meter with yards conversions (using the SwimSwam converter) are:

  • 50 freestyle: 22.60 (converts to 20.36)
  • 100 freestyle: 48.88 (converts to 44.03)
  • 200 freestyle: 1:46.61 (converts to 1:36.04)
  • 100 butterfly: 53.87 (converts to 48.53)
  • 200 IM: 2:00.79 (converts to 1:48.81)

Virginia Tech is a public university located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The school is a member of the ACC. The men finished third out of 12 teams at the 2021 ACC Championships.

Based on his best converted times, Pancerevas has the potential to make an immediate impact at the conference level for the Hokies. His best times would already earn him a spot in the ‘C’ final of the 200 freestyle.

His converted times would place him third on the roster in the 200 freestyle, fourth in the 100 freestyle, fifth in the 200 IM, and sixth in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. This gives him the potential to make an impact for the Hokies in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Virginia Tech’s mid-distance freestyle and butterfly groups are international-heavy. Both groups are led by Egypt’s Youssef Ramadan. Spain’s Luis Dominguez also leads the sprint freestyle group, and Bulgaria’s Antani Ivanov is key to the butterfly group.

Pancerevas will arrive on campus in fall 2023 along with Brendan Whitfield. Ivanov will have graduated before Pancerevas arrives on campus, but Pancerevas will overlap at least one year with Ramadan (depending on if Ramadan takes his fifth year allowed by the NCAA COVID-19 waiver) and two years with Dominguez.
