Juniors Qualifier Kit Schneider Commits to Wisconsin

Kit Schneider, a junior at Hinsdale Central High School, verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison! A huge thank you to my parents, teammates, friends, and coaches for supporting me every step of the way. I cannot wait to be part of such an amazing team! Go Badgers!!”

She is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 50m free (26.51).

Schneider was the Illinois High School state champion for the 50 free in November. This made her Hindsdale Central’s 8th all-time swimmer to win an individual state title, but the first since 1999.

The 2021 state meet was Schneider’s first. Her sophomore state meet was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, and her freshman meet was canceled by a gruesome gash in her finger on the morning of prelims. Schneider had put a razor in her bag uncapped for shaving her legs, and when she went to put her bag on the bus, she gashed her finger. The team had to stop at an emergency facility to get the cut taken care of, and doctors wouldn’t allow her to swim later that day.

She does her club swimming with the Hinsdale Swim Club.

Best short-course yards times:

  • 50 free – 22.95
  • 100 free – 50.64
  • 200 free – 1:50.25
  • 100 back – 55.48
  • 100 fly – 55.78

The Wisconsin women finished 5th in the Big 10 last season and 19th at the NCAA Championships. Schneider’s times put her into a position to contribute to relays and individual points for the Badgers in the future. At last year’s conference championship, her best 50 free time would have qualified for the C- Final.

Her time in the 50 free ranks her 5th on the team this year while her time in the 100 free would make her the 6th-fastest on the team.

She could also potentially contribute in the back and fly events, her best times in both would put her at 6th on the roster this season. NCAA champion and Olympian Phoebe Bacon leads the backstroke group.
