ST. PAUL, Minn. – South Dakota men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each came away victorious in Summit League duals on Friday against St. Thomas inside the AARC Pool and Aquatic Center.

The Coyote men won all 13 events contested and posted a 149-67 win while the Coyote women team had seven first place efforts and narrowly edged the Tommies 121-115.

On a big team night to open the 2022 portion of the schedule it was sophomore Stella Fairbanks who made the biggest, or shall we saw smallest, splash of the night.

Fairbanks won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 273.05, a new personal best, that is a NCAA Zone Qualifying Mark and moves her up to fifth on the school’s all-time charts.

Charlie BeanWilliam Johnston and Mairead Powers each posted a pair of individual victories during the meet while Kayla MiddaughZachary KoppJake LeichnerSara MayerEmily KahnJacob WonKeegan HenningAdam Fisher and Jack Berdahl also earned individual wins.

Bean, a senior, won the 200 free (1:43.98) and the 100 free (46.53) while Johnston, a senior, swept the two diving events, winning the one-meter with a new personal best of 254.00 and taking the three-meter event with a score of 272.20.

Powers, a freshman, won the 200 IM (2:12.03) and the 100 back (59.82) while fellow freshmen Mayer and Kahn won the 50 free (24.63) and 100 fly (57.86), respectively. Middaugh, a sophomore, won the three-meter diving event with a score of 252.75.

The Coyote women won the 400 medley relay as the team of Isabel FairbanksShannon Banark, Mayer and Kahn swam 3:58.58.

Leichner, a senior and school record holder in the 200 IM, won his specialty in 1:57.81 while classmate Won led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 butterfly, touching first in 50.96.

Won also anchored the winning 400 free relay, joining Nathan NollGriffin Wolner and Mack Sathre in posting a 3:10.92.

Kopp, a junior, won the 50 free in 21.64, an event the Coyotes posted the top four times in. Kopp also swam on the other two winning relays, leading off the 200 free relay and anchoring the 400 medley relay. He joined Brady Torborg, Sather and Grant Wolner in the 200 free relay (1:26.16) and Fisher, Berdahl and Aidan Gantenbein in the 400 medley relay (3:27.78).

Fisher and Berdahl, a pair of freshmen, claimed victories in the 100 back (51.56) and 100 breast (57.73), respectively, while Henning, a sophomore, won the 500 free in 4:49.21.

Runner-up performances for the women came from Mayer (200 free), Fairbanks (200 IM), Middaugh (1 Meter Diving), Christina Spomer (50 free), Cassie Ketterling (two, 100 fly, 100 breast), Emily Johnson (100 free) and Leah Drengenberg (500 free).

The men’s team received second-place efforts from Won (200 free), Henry Simpson (50 free), Sathre (100 fly) and Griffin Wolner (500 free).

The same two teams are back in the pool on Saturday for duals that start at 10 a.m.

St. Paul, Minn. – The St. Thomas men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams returned to the home pool to face off against Summit League opponent South Dakota on Friday.

After the first day against USD, the women’s team trailed, 121-115, while the men’s squad was down, 149-67.

On the men’s side, AJ Carollo, Joe RuddMichael Scripp, and Alex Foti (3:32.35) finished second in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. Casey McGrath raced to a time of 49.51 in the 100 Yard Freestyle for St. Thomas. Andrew Akermann, a junior from Maple Grove, Minn., tallied a third-place time of 1:47.09 in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Joe Rudd and John Gahnz finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 Yard IM.

Skyler Leverenz, a freshman from Lakeville, Minn., tallied a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:54.70. Sophomore Sophia Becker also recorded a first-place finish for the Tommies, coming in the 100 Yard Freestyle. In the 500 Yard Freestyle, freshman Elizabeth Bonneville notched first place. As a relay unit, the women’s squad earned first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:38.82). Sophomore Grace Urkiel finished with a first-place tally of 1:07.42 for a finals time in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. The quad of Liddy OheTaylor RauLily Linden, and Megan West finished second in the 400 Yard Medley Relay for the Toms. Peyton Eckman finished second in the 3 Meter Dive (2230.55) and third in the 1 Meter Dive with a score of 227.50. Sophomore Carly Wolf recorded a third-place time of 2:15.08 in the 200 Yard IM.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – South Dakota men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of dual meet victories during Saturday’s Summit League meet with St. Thomas.

The Coyote men won 12 of the 14 individual events and both relays and earned a 214-91 win while the Coyote women won 10 of 14 individual events and one relay in their 206-148 victory.

Picking up two individual wins on the day were Stella FairbanksWilliam JohnstonZachary KoppSara Mayer and Mairead Powers.

Fairbanks, a sophomore, won both diving events, posting NCAA Zone Qualifying Marks in both events for the second time this season. She scored 268.80 points on the one-meter board and 284.80 points on the three-meter board.

Johnston, a senior, swept the diving events on the men’s side for the second straight day, scoring 26250 points on the one-meter board and 222.65 points on the three-meter board.

Kopp, a junior, won the 50 free (21.67) and 200 free (1:46.00) while also swimming the leadoff leg on the winning 200 free relay, joining Charlie BeanAidan GantenbeinAdam Fisher in clocking 1:25.14.

Mayer, a freshman, swam to victories in the 200 fly (2:13.43) and the 100 fly (58.16) while she also placed second in the 200 free (1:57.91).

Powers, a freshman, won a pair of individual events for the second straight day, as she touched the wall first in the 200 back (2:07.98) and the 400 IM (4:38.91). Powers was also third behind Mayer in the 200 free.

The men’s team also received individual wins from Keegan Henning (1650 free), Gantenbein (100 back), Jack Berdahl (100 breast), Griffin Wolner (200 fly), Bean (100 free), Fisher (200 back), Jacob Won (100 fly) and Jake Leichner (400 IM).

Fisher, Berdahl, Gantenbein and Bean posted a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:34.85.

The men’s dual was aided by a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 50 free led by Kopp and a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 free led by Bean. Won led a 1-2-3 effort in the 100 fly and Leichner paced a 1-2-3-4 effort in the 400 IM.

The women’s team also had a sweep of the podium in the 500 free as Hannah Aitkin touched first in 5:18.41.

Leah Drengenberg won the 1650 free, Emily Kahn claimed the 100 free and Cassie Ketterling touched the wall first in the 200 breast.

The Coyote women, with the foursome of Emma ClarkMeghan AtwellMadilyn Sindelar and Kahn, won the 200 medley relay in 1:51.16.

Runner-up performances for the women came from Kayla Middaugh (both diving events), Maria Mattaini (1650 free and 500 free), Clark (100 back), Isabelle Davenport (100 breast), Kahn (50 free), Isabel Fairbanks (200 breast) and Ketterling (400 IM).

Posting second-place efforts for the men’s team were Griffin Wolner (200 free, 400 IM), Fisher (50 free), Mack Sathre (100 free, 200 breast), Henning (500 free) and Gantenbein (100 fly).

The Coyotes return home to host Summit League foes Omaha (Friday) and South Dakota State (Saturday) inside the DakotaDome Pool.

St. Paul, Minn. – The St. Thomas men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams battled against the Coyotes for the second-consecutive day on Saturday.

In Saturday’s dual meet, the women’s team fell 206-148, while the men’s team suffered a 214-91 result.

Freshman swimmer Joe Rudd notched first for the men’s squad in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Senior Andrew Godfrey, a diver out of Monomonee Falls, Wis., tallied a second-place score of 179.50 in the 1 Meter Dive. The quad of AJ Carollo, Rudd, Jake Appino, and Foti tallied third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Foti, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis., also notched first in the 500 Yard Freestyle and second place in the 1650 Yard Freestyle. John Gahnz earned second place for the men’s squad in the 100 Yard Backstroke.

Freshman Skyler Leverenz finished the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:55.70, earning first. Leverenz also finished first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.19. Senior Anna Astrup collected first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 59.86. Continuing the women’s run of first-place finishes, Grace Urkiel tallied the top spot in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. The women raced to first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Liddy OheAshley PlantenbergLiz Thull, and Taylor Rau combined for second place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Freshman Elizabeth Bonneville, competing in the 1650 Yard Freestyle, finished with a time of 18:20.91 and third place.
