Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Committing to one of the top Division III schools in the country, Avery Dixon of St. Johns, Florida has announced that she will be heading to Washington University (Missouri) this fall. Dixon is currently a senior at Creekside High School.
“I am so happy to announce my commitment to swim and study at WashU in St Louis! A huge thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for their constant support! GO BEARS!!!”
Swimming for her high school, Dixon was a finalist in both the 100 breast and 200 IM at the 2021 FHSAA Florida 4A State Championships last fall. In the breast, she qualified for the A-final, taking 8th in 1:06.14. She was slightly faster during prelims, touching in 1:05.58. She also added a 15th place finish in the 2:09.55. Dixon’s two swims were huge in helping the Creekside high school team to a 5th place overall finish at the meet.
Last summer, she picked up multiple best times at the Futures Championship meet in Huntsville. At that meet, she picked up new best times in the 100 breast (1:18.10), 200 breast (2:47.56), 50 fly (31.50), and 100 fly (1:07.80).
Top SCY Times
- 100 breast – 1:05.58
- 200 breast – 2:23.04
- 200 IM – 2:08.05
- 400 IM – 4:33.72
While the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, WashU finished in 4th at the 2020 University Athletic Association Championships. The team had numerous A-finalists and came away from the meet with 3 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. The team has historically been successful at the Division III level. All-time, the program has produced 23 NCAA champions, 254 conference champions, and 205 Academic All-Americans.
With time left to improve before she arrives on campus next fall, Dixon already would be competitive in the breaststroke and IM events at the national level. So far this season, her times in the 100 and 200 breast, as well as the 200 and 400 IM, would rank in the top-50 in Division III. Within the WashU program this year, she would be one of the team’s top performers in those four events this year.
