The Stanford women came into the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships looking to win for the third consecutive year. The Cal Golden Bears were runners-up to Stanford in 2017 and 2018, and were looking to win their first title since 2015. You can watch the available race videos from the meet below.

800 free relay

The meet started with  Stanford winning the 800 free relay, with Cal coming in second. The race was far from perfect for Stanford, however, with anchor Brooke Forde miscounting and finishing the race on her feet before taking a “victory” lap. Despite her finish, Forde still split a 1:42.37.

200 IM

  1. Beata Nelson (Wisconsin): 1:50.79
  2. Ella Eastin (Stanford): 1:51.81
  3. Sydney Pickrem (Texas A&M): 1:51.84

Wisconsin’s Beata Nelson led from start to finish in the 200 IM, missing the NCAA record by only 0.12. NCAA record-holder Ella Eastin came in second just ahead of Sydney Pickrem by three-hundredths of a second.

400 IM

  1. Ella Eastin (Stanford): 3:57.03
  2. Sydney Pickrem (Texas A&M): 3:58.23
  3. Brooke Forde (Stanford): 3:59.26)

Ella Eastin made history in the 400 IM, becoming the first women’s swimmer to win four-straight NCAA titles in the race. She set the NCAA record in 2018, going 3:54.60. Stanford earned big points in the event, with Brooke Forde coming in third.

100 breast

  1. Lilly King (Indiana): 55.73
  2. Delaney Duncan (Eastern Michigan): 57.83
  3. Sophie Hansson (NC State): 57.90

IU’s Lilly King won her fourth consecutive title in the 100 breast, finishing in an American and NCAA record time of 55.73. King had a dominating performance, finishing over two-seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The record in the event prior to Lilly King was held by Breeja Larson, whose time was 57.23 – one-and-a-half seconds slower than King.

100 back

Beata Nelson followed up her 200 IM win with a new NCAA record in the 100 back. Nelson swam a 49.18, breaking her previous record time of 49.67.

200 back

  2. Taylor Ruck (Stanford): 1:47.59
  3. Asia Seidt (Kentucky): 1:48.65

Nelson won her third title of the meet and earned another NCAA record in the 200 back, swimming a 1:47.24. Stanford freshman and Canadian Olympian Taylor Ruck finished close behind in 1:47.59.

200 breast

  1. Lilly King (Indiana): 2:02.90
  2. Sydney Pickrem (Texas A&M): 2:03.65
  3. Sophie Hansson (NC State): 2:06.18

King became a 4x NCAA champion in another event, the 200 breast. She was also close to breaking her NCAA record in the race, coming in just .30 shy of the mark.
