McKenzie, Wright Win twice At Coyote Invite For Iowa Central

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kyle McKenzie and Lily Wright were each individual double winners during the Coyote Invitational for Iowa Central.

McKenzie was also part of the winning 200 medley relay for the Tritons with Quintin Tayali, Sam Brennan and Nikola Trajanovski. In the final leg, Trajanovski recorded a split of 21.29.

McKenzie won both the 400 individual medley in 4:06.40 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:05.82. He was also the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke in a field featuring several NCAA Div. I swimmers.

Wright captured her first place finishes in the 100 breaststroke, going 1:05.26, and 200 breaststroke, with a time of 2:22.95.

“This was a great meet for us for where we are in training,” Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. “The swimmers were really tired and sore, yet, we had some really good results. We won some events and had many season-bests.

“I’m really proud of how we performed, and yet again, they have shown how exciting nationals is going to be.”

Gavin Hall, Matthew Crossman, Dalton Hammel and Luke Johnson were third in the 200 medley relay, with Brady Ferguson adding a third in the 1,650 free.

The 400 medley relay of Tayali, McKenzie, Pedro Aragon and Brennan, along with the quartet of Aragon, Crossman, Wyatt Cook and Hall in the 400 free relay were each fourth. Brendon Chadd added a fourth in the 1,6500 free with Brennan placing fifth in the 100 butterfly.

Aragon, Crossman, Cook and Hall were also fifth in the 200 free relay.

Leticia Dias was fourth in the 1,650 free.

Next action for the Tritons will be February 11-12 when they host the Midwest Cup.
