STORRS, Conn. –  The University of Connecticut women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful 2022 regular season with a dominating performance over Providence College in their exhibition matchup.

On a day where 10 seniors were celebrated for all their accomplishments, UConn fed off the energy created by the sold-out crowd and graduating seniors. UConn would place first place in 13 events. UConn’s 10 seniors each had individual race highlights, securing victories in virtually every race they swam.

One of the highlights of the meet was the 100-yard breaststroke. Senior Katelyn Walsh who has been on the verge of breaking the pool record at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium had one more chance to break the record of 1:02.58. With the sold-out crowd and all her teammates on her side, Katelyn would successfully break the pool record with a time of 1:02.18.

“It was really fun to have all my friends and family out here and break the record in front of that type of crowd today. I’m super grateful to have my teammates behind me cheering for me like they were,” said Senior Katelyn Walsh about breaking the pool record.

“It was sad and bittersweet to have senior day today and know that it was my last time swimming in this pool. It’s been a long four years but a great four years. It feels weird to have this be my last race here, but it all went really well,” Walsh added about senior night.

The UConn seniors will go out as some of the most decorated athletes in swimming history and will look to continue to build off a great season.

UConn seniors will look to end their collegiate careers on a high note, as they turn their attention to the BIG EAST Championships held at the end of February.

At the time of publication, Providence hasn’t published a press release.
