GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 2/11/2022

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Jaime Hong, 12, Lakeshore Swim Club (LSSC-LE): Hong produced seven new best times at the TYR Sport Winter Invitational last weekend in Cincinnati, including moving into 32nd all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group in the 50 fly (24.65) and 36th in the 50 free (22.72). The 12-year-old Lakeshore swimmer also moved into 54th all-time in the 100 IM (56.70), 65th in the 100 free (49.97) and 73rd in the 200 IM (2:02.59).

Alyse Block, 13, Verona Area Swim Team (VAST-WI): The 13-year-old Block clocked in six personal bests at the Schroeder YMCA A+ meet, highlighted by a 52.65 effort in the 100 freestyle. Block actually swam the three-fastest 100 frees of her life at the meet, having entered the meet with a best of 53.65 from January.

Oryan Liu, 13, Pleasanton Seahawks (PLS-PC): Liu put up four new lifetime bests at the DART Superleague Champs last weekend, including a pair of highly-ranked breaststroke swims for the season. Liu clocked 2:08.78 in the 200 breast to rank second among 13-year-olds this season, while his 100 breast showing of 1:00.24 sits sixth.

Kiley Wilhelm, 17, Life Time Swim Team – Cary (LIFE-NC): Wilhelm strung out a trio of best times while competing for Myers Park High School at the NCHSAA 4A Western Regionals Feb. 4-5, picking up individual wins in the girls’ 100 back (52.57) and 200 IM (1:55.78) while leading off the 400 free relay in 49.33. The 200 IM swim moves her into a tie for 27th all-time in the girls’ 17-18 age group, while the 100 back ranks her tied for 68th.

Luke Garrett, 14, Lakeside Aquatic Club (LAC-NT): Competing for Lewisville’s Flower Mound High School at the TX Regional 2-6A Championship Meet, Garrett, a Lakeside Aquatic Club product, dropped a 200 free best time of 1:41.58 to place third as a freshman. Garrett, who finished behind a pair of seniors, had a previous best of 1:42.86 set in January at the District Championships. He’s now lowered his PB four times since November.

Charis Roundtree, 13, Centreville Swim Club (CSC-PV): Roundtree produced best times in the 100 free, 500 free and 100 back at the MAKO Qualifier on Feb. 6, with her 100 back swim of 57.80 marking a full second drop from her previous PB set in December.
