Universal Sports Network and NBC will air 70 hours of premier pool action from the 2013 FINA World Aquatic Championships in Barcelona, Spain, from Saturday, July 20, through Sunday, August 4, in the world championships for diving, swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo.
Universal Sports kicks off coverage on Saturday, July 20, at 7 p.m. ET with the opening rounds of diving and synchronized swimming followed by the first day of water polo group play when the USA women take on Greece on Sunday, July 21 at 6 p.m. ET. Swimming coverage begins on Sunday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC, with Universal Sports providing daily live coverage from Monday, July 29, through Friday, August 2, at 12 p.m. ET. NBC’s coverage continues on Saturday, August 3 from 1-3 p.m. ET and Sunday, August 4 from 4-6 p.m. ET. Calling swimming will be Dan Hicks, Rowdy Gaines and Carolyn Manno.

This year’s World Aquatics Championships will feature world-class competition including:
Missy Franklin, 5-time Olympic medalist, leads Team USA to the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
Diving/High Diving: Sixteen-time national champion and 2012 Olympic gold medalist David Boudia will lead a team of 15 American divers after cruising to victory in the 10m platform at the World Championship Trials. In addition to traditional platform and springboard diving events, high diving will make its debut at this year’s world championships. Divers will compete from a 20m (women) or 27m (men) platform and hit the water travelling at speeds of 50 mph. Six Americans will compete including Steven Lobue, who was third at last year’s World Series.
Swimming: The U.S. is led by a strong team of London Olympic gold medalists coming off strong performances at the Phillips 66 National Championships in June. Nathan Adrian and Ryan Lochte lead the men’s roster, while teen sensations Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky along with veteran Natalie Coughlin headline the women’s squad.
Synchronized Swimming: For the first time in the history of the FINA World Championships, the top 16 ranked solos and duets will qualify for the technical finals, instead of the top 12. The synchronized swimming competition will take place in the historic Palau Sant Jordi.
Water Polo (Women): The U.S. women are the favorites and looking for an unprecedented fourth world championship in ten years. The 2012 Olympic gold medalists have eight players from the London squad including center Kami Craig.
Water Polo (Men): Following an 8th place finish at the 2012 Olympic Games, the U.S. men will face stiff competition from Russia, China and the host team, Spain. The team has a new coach and will feature several young rising stars led by established veterans Tony Azevedo and Merrill Moses.

I beleive that if any of the Us fans here can catch BBC coverage on streaming , u will be able to watch many races live ( probably prelims and semi-finals + finals ). Now , i will check carefully what BBC will cover in order to be precise . In Europe , it seems we are a bit more lucky for the transmissions possibilities .

However, unless you’re from the UK, you probably won’t be able to watch their live video stream due to not having paid for the BBC licensing fee that all Brit households have to.
There are walkarounds to that as always, which I can’t get into here for obvious reasons (think, UK VPN).
I was able to enjoy the BBC’s commentary for London, which while a bit partisan at times, was in my opinion quite a bit superior to NBC and the Aussie broadcast.
Eurosports Is usually the best one to catch though, very informative and relatively objective commentary from them.
Will Eurosport broadcast the swimming live? I hope so! Will we be able to catch the live stream? I am stressing that this will be the first worlds that I cannot watch due to greed and stupidity. To punish those who have NOTHING to do with their cable companies decisions to NOT offer Universal is ludicrous. It would be a brilliant plan to charge for the live streaming if your cable company does not offer it. But to cut us out entirely is just plain stupid.
This really stinks! Like many here, my cable company at one time carried Universal Sports but dropped it a couple of years ago. So unfair.

So Universal Sports isn’t offering the $10 live streaming option for non cable subscribers like in 2011?
I was told they were not. I was shocked and disappointed and also angry that we are being penalized for something that we have no control over. I am hoping that they change their minds.

Universal stopped letting you purchase online events a la carte in early 2012.
Spoke with Universal Sports and was told that we cannot watch the live streaming online UNLESS your cable company already provides Universal Sports. So I contacted my cable company asking for them to get Universal Sports and was pretty much ignored. I cannot believe that watching the World Championships LIVE is this impossible. I am hoping that someone can come through with a website live stream from somewhere in the world….anywhere. The American swim fans are absolutely being disrespected beyond belief.

I sometimes wonder that if a certain swimmer named Phelps was competing whether we could get the live stream because of the demand to watch him compete????? Thanks for your concern, ASWIMFAN. All is not lost. I always have hope that something will happen for the benefit of the swimming fans. As an aside, with the World Championships for track and field coming up next month, I can guarantee you that they WILL be broadcast every day on NBC. They did this with the T&F nationals last month (earlier this month???) and will do the same with Worlds. But does swimming get the same respect???? Absolutely not. I’m guessing you won’t see these videos on YouTube immediately either since NBC is covering the event. It’s looking like most of us in the US will only get the weekend coverage and then will have to hope it’s posted online somewhere. In the past they’ve been hit or miss when they make the videos available on the NBC Universal Sports website, but the site itself is very sluggish and the video quality is usually poor.
Apparently neither NBC or Universal selected any of the open water events …. still much to do.
But they will broadcast “High Diving” (Ouch!)
On a different topic, would anyone happen to have any insights into why we Americans are starting our training camp so late for Worlds?
The team won’t be leaving for Spain until next Wednesday from what I’ve read, whereas most of the other competing nations already have their preparations well under way in Barcelona or in the general region (Majorca comes to mind). Last year the US Olympic squad seemed to have an earlier start, assembling in Knoxville for a few days soon after trials, prior to flying to training camp in Vichy…
