The University of Georgia’s Megan Kingsley has given her verbal commitment to the University of Georgia, she announced on her Twitter account Monday morning.
“Proud to say that I’m going to be a part of the Georgia class of 2018!! Officially a Georgia dawg” the Tweet read.
Kingsley is a member of the Junior National Team and the defending Winter Junior National Champion (and Meet Record holder) in 200 yard fly.
In those butterfly races, which are her best, she has been 53.2 and 1:55.50 in the 100 and 200 yard distances, respectively.
That time in the 200 fly would have placed her 4th at last year’s SEC Championship meet and also would have been 7th at the NCAA Championship meet.
Not too many years ago, the Georgia women were very thin in the butterfly races, and at one point didn’t have a single NCAA qualifier in either butterfly event. Now, though, with junior Lauren Harrington who placed 2nd at NCAA’s in the 200 fly last year and the addition of Kingsley, plus other young talent like Courtney Peters that is one of their strengths headed into the 2013-2014 title defense season.
Kingsley is also a great backstroker in yards, with a best of 53.68 in the 100 yard race. Her best 200 yard free is a 1:50, but with a 2:04 in long course, plus the capable hands of Jack Bauerle at work, she should improve in that race as well. Kingsley is a huge long course talent as well with a 2:11.32 in the 200 long course fly.
Kingsley hails from the Mount Pleasant Swim Club in South Carolina.
