After being arrested and charged with “indecent liberties with a child” at the YMCA Short Course National Championship meet this spring, former Countryside YMCA (Ohio) swim coach Patrick Jeanneret has been permanently banned by USA Swimming.
Jeanneret’s month-long appeals period expired today, with his suspension date officially going down as June 18th, 2013.
The following sections of the Code of Conduct were specifically cited:
304.3.6 Conviction of, imposition of a deferred sentence for, or any plea of guilty or no contest at any time, past or present, or the existence of any pending charges, for (i) any felony, (ii) any offense involving use, possession, distribution or intent to distribute illegal drugs or substances, (iii) any crime involving sexual misconduct, or (iv) any criminal offense against a minor.
304.3.8 A Any inappropriate sexual conduct or advance, or other inappropriate oral, written, visual,
or physical conduct of a sexual nature directed towards an athlete by (i) a coach member or other non-athlete member, or (ii) any other adult participating in any capacity whatsoever in the activities of USA Swimming (whether such adult is a member or not).304.3.18 Any other material and intentional act, conduct or omission not provided for above, which is detrimental to the image or reputation of USA Swimming, a LSC or the sport of swimming.
Ceci Christy followed down the current legal status of the case, and Jeanneret is out on $20,000 bond while he awaits his trial week of August 5th.
According to the police report, he was arrested at 5AM on April 6th, 2011 and under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. The report also indicates that there was not a “forced sex act” and that the alleged victim was not injured.
The Charge is “indecent liberties with a child under 16 for the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire under North Carolina statue 14-202.2”. The maximum punishment, if found guilty, for this class 1 misdemeanor is 6 months in prison, which is a downgrade from the original charge that could have been as high as a Class F Felony.
Jeanneret was fired by the Countryside YMCA immediately after his arrest.
What happened to Jamie Thomas of New South Swimming, Charlotte NC. He isn’t coaching and rumors are flying.
