Aquajets Break NAG Records in 200 Medley Relay

After just barely missing a NAG Record in the 200 meter free relay on Friday, a similar (but slightly different) foursome from the Aquajets broke the 15-16 and 15-18 National Age Group Records in the 200 long course meter medley relay.

Zoe AvestruzOlivia AndersonBre Thorne and Kaia Grobe swam a 1:54.41 at the Minnesota Long Course State Championship meet.

That started by breaking the 15-16 Record set just a week ago by SwimMAC Carolina at 1:57.48 (that group was Nora McCullagh, Sarah Stranick, Alyssa Marsh, and Jessica Merritt).

All they had to do to get the overall 15-18 record, though, was break the team record. That team record, though, was done in polyurethane by a combination of Rachel Bootsma, Abby Duncan, Meghan Cummings, and Tess Behrens in 1:54.46.

The comparative splits between the SwimMAC and the most current Aquajets relay are below (the only 15-18 record was done in 2009, but we can’t find where they did it).

SwimMAC 15-16 Aquajets 15-16
Backstroke McCullagh – 29.81 Avestruz 28.89
Breaststroke Stranick – 33.83 Anderson 31.51
Butterfly Marsh – 26.98 Thorne 28.45
Freestyle Merritt – 26.76 Grobe 25.56.

The difference between this and the 200 free relay was Anderson stepping in on the breaststroke leg, and Thorne stepping in on the butterfly leg.

The Aquajets’ senior group is coached by Kate Lundsten.

Thanks to Jean Buteyn for sharing the news with us.
