The United States Wreaks Havoc On Worlds Day 2 Medal Table

2022 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day two of the 2022 FINA World Championships added several more nations into the mix of medals, with the Netherlands and China among them.

Breaststroking ace Arno Kamminga wrapped up 100m breaststroke silver for the Netherlands while China’s Zhang Yufei earned bronze in the women’s 100m fly.

The United States enjoyed a fruitful set of finals, with Nic Fink collecting bronze in the men’s 100m breast, while Torri Huske nailed a new national record en route to winning the women’s 100m fly. Caeleb Dressel and Michael Andrew went 1 & 3 in the men’s 50m fly to inflict further damage on the medal table while Alex Walsh wrangled up 200m IM gold.

We’ll see how the medal table standings continue to unfold as the meet progresses, however, right now, the stars n’ stripes have three times the number of medals the next closest nation of Australia through two days of competition here in Budapest.

How about ‘USA top medal tally as anybody but a fool would have predicted’…

I simply refuse to be bullied into deadening my praise for TEAM USA because swimmer X from OZ or UK or elsewhere is not here! Good Times in the pool are good times, period! And frankly, if you don’t/can’t show up, well the medals DESERVE to go to those who ARE here and paid a heavy price in training to get here! Go, TEAM USA!

Who is telling you you’re not allowed to be happy? Who is bullying you? No one.

This is very reminiscent of those Facebook posts saying “SHARE IF YOU WANT TO STOP JOE BIDEN FROM MAKING IT ILLEGAL TO SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS”. Just fabricate an opposition that is ridiculous so you can make a big point of opposing it.

Be proud. Be happy. But don’t tell other people that you’re better than them because they have different priorities to you.

USA is absolutely killing it. That’s factual. Walsh, Hayes and Huske in particular have been phenomenal. I don’t think anyone is disputing that.

But this World Champs is missing at least one Tokyo medallist in 20/28 Olympic events and 6/7 gold medal relays are missing a key leg. That’s also factual. That doesn’t diminish the achievements of the US swimmers. But it’s just the truth.

To act like the circumstances of this meet aren’t, at the very least, unconventional, is absurd. To act like the USA isn’t one of the only countries prioritising this as their only meet of the year is absurd.

You can be happy about winning but also accept the circumstances and facts of reality. If Tokyo… Read more »

The US would’ve won the 200IM and 100 Fly anyway

With a population of 332 million USA and China 1.42 Billion should be topping the table.

You would have to combine Germany UK France Italy Spain and The Netherlands to equal that number. Lets see at the end of the competition.

If some eligible to compete at World Championships swimmers decided not to compete for some reason then that is their own decision that shouldn’t be discussed or judged. But if this person doesn’t win at World Championships he/she isn’t a world champion no matter how strong he/she is. And that is the end of the story. If such a person doesn’t care of having such a title it’s absolutely up to him/her. I, for example, don’t care 😀

Totally agree. But the comments are full of people saying that swimmers shouldn’t “be allowed” to skip WCs lol.

Some swimmers prefer a world record from earlier this year on top of a gold medal from last year and world championship from 2019

Should never have been scheduled so close to Comm Games. Given the strength of England, Australia and Canada at the moment, this timing was completely without thought.

That is the FIFA World Cup, an event in which a commonwealth nation has not won since 1966.
