Milak finished in a time of 1:50.34, breaking his 2019 mark of 1:50.73 and putting himself more than a second clear of anyone else in history. The only other swimmer to break 1:52 is Michael Phelps, who was 1:51.51 in 2009.
Day 7

The Australians dealt the U.S. its first-ever defeat in the event and snatched the world record in the process, as they posted a time of 3:19.38 in the mixed 400 freestyle relay. The Aussie quartet of Jack Cartwright (48.12), Kyle Chalmers (46.98), Madi Wilson (52.25) and Mollie O’Callaghan (52.03) combined to down the previous world record by two one-hundredths of a second, winning gold by over a second.
I know this doesnt have anything to do with this topic but, does anyone know whats up with Dressel? He just withdrawed out of WC’s and hasnt said anything since then. I know he prefers to be quiet about his health issues (aka 2018 motorcycle accident) but this is strange to say the least. I really hope he is doing well
dressel’s motorcyle accident was in late june and it didn’t become public knowledge until pan pacs finished. that was a 6 week wait for something that didn’t require a test result of any kind, and it wasn’t even a withdrawal. given that it’s only been 3 weeks since he withdrew (half the time he took to go public in 2018), I’d wait at least 3 weeks before speculating any further
Boss.
To be honest, a video of Milak playing games with Julian in the semi final would’ve been more fun to watch than his WR
Hopefully Hungary will have a final in this type of relay in the next few years with Milák, Németh Nándor and the upcoming junior swimmers (Pádár and Molnár).
When you watch Milak’s 2fly, you just have to say ‘what a thing of beauty’! His stroke mechanics are flawless and his pacing was almost perfect – he got a bit tired at the end and floated into the wall – Who cares! A world record and a swimmer in a class by himself. Paris 2024 will be very exciting!
