One of the records he could end up breaking might not be Dressel’s at all. I think it could be the 200y free. Just as the 500y free and 200m free tend to correlate, so too do the 200y free and 100m free. I’d like to see him get the opportunity to do something Dressel didn’t and swim a couple 200y frees at big meets, and I think it could happen sometime because Florida is well past the years of having to throw 400 IMmers on 200 sprint relays.
Dressel could have been a world class 200 free and 200 IM LCM. I think these are where the MP comparisons come from. Dressel once said in an interview, around the time he was branching out into these events short course (including breaststroke) that he wanted to use every ounce of the talent that God gave him. It will be interesting to see how Leindo evolves with this in mind. I’ve heard some questions about this raised: is Leindo actually more of a pure sprinter than Dressel? Could a more singular sprint orientation/disposition actually produce better results in some of these events? Or does this not make a difference?
For me, I think the biggest factor beyond these questions… Read more »
So Cocky
I really don’t get the notion that someone being vocal about ambitious goals makes them cocky. Swimmers setting high goals is good for the sport, its how we get athletes that can burst through major barriers rather than continually inching forward. And hey, them sharing those goals with the world is good for the fans.
Confident is more like it. Joshua is one of the most respectful men on earth, Bennett 🙂
He’ll be between 18.0-18.5, sub 41, and sub 44 fly by the end of this season. He’s way too explosive to not be really good in SCY.
Hell be breaking some records before he’s finished in Florida.
Just keep in context that after the 17.63, it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility that Dressel would split 49.xx on the breaststroke leg of the 400 Medley Relay, and he as a matter of fact pulled his groin during that race.
Somehow 42.80 in the 100 Fly and 39.90 in the 100 free could’ve been faster. This really can’t be understated,
Troy and Dressel (with kinesio-tape on under the suit) had a discussion on the bulkhead during warm-up before Day 3 prelims and I honestly thought Dressel would’ve been pulled from the meet.
Likely no 17.63 but based on his swimming style methinks he’s the 2nd guy going under the 18 sec barrier ahead of Seeliger
His LCM and SCM compare very similarly to Andrei Minakov, just with more speed in the 50 free. Given what Minakov just did this past year (19.0, 41.0, 43.7), I think Dressels records could be in reach in time, assuming he starts around those times as well, but with a much faster 50
Remel is built different.
It appears that he has fallen apart and requires reassembly.
