WASHINGTON – On the day that George Washington swimming & diving raised dual banners to honor its 2022 A-10 Championship winning squads, the 2022-23 team channeled the same winning pedigree to put together a successful showing in its tri-meet against Old Dominion and James Madison.

The Buff & Blue recorded top finishes in 22 of 32 events at the Charles E. Smith Center on Saturday. Individually, sophomore Moriah Freitas had a big afternoon with four top-three finishes, including first place finishes in the 400 Medley Relay, the 200 Butterfly and the 100 Butterfly.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Freitas finished first alongside teammates Ava DeAngelis, Phoebe Wright and Barbara Schaal in the 400 Medley Relay. The foursome finished almost 10 seconds faster than the second-place finishers.
-GW’s men’s team also placed first and second in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of Karol MlynarczykPreston LinMatthew Whelan and Dylan Koo finished in the top spot with a time of 3:22.81.
-Both Schaal and Wright put on a show in the 200 Backstroke on Saturday. The teammates’ finishing times were separated by just 0.01 seconds, with Schaal posting a time of 2:02.74 and Wright finishing in 2:02.75.
-The GW men put together an impressive performance in the 100 and 200 Butterfly, claiming the four fastest times in both events.
-Olivia Paquette was GW’s top diver on Saturday, recording a score of 262.13 on the 1-meter dive and a score of 265.35 on the 3-meter dive.
-George Washington claimed the top two spots in 12 events on Saturday and finished in the top three spots in both the 500 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly.
-Stine Omdahl Petersen finished first in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:22.65.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – James Madison swimming & diving began its season by earning a split in a tri-meet Saturday at the Charles E. Smith Center, topping Old Dominion, 210-83, while slightly falling to host George Washington, 163-136.

The Dukes earned top-three finishes in both relay events, both boards and nine individual swim events. JMU earned wins in the 200 Free Relay, 1-meter board, 3-meter board, 50 Free, 100 Free and 200 IM.

Dive

  • Three of the top five spots in the 1-meter were earned by Dukes, with Maddie Yager taking first with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 273.98. Lindsey Hammar took second with a score of 262.28 and Felicity Ryan scored a 255.98 for fourth place.
  • Hammar scored her second second-place finish of the day, scoring a 273.83 on the 3-meter board. Alexa Holloway won the event, scoring a 275.85.

Relays

Individual

  • Jess Pryne took home three top-three finishes, winning the 200 IM (2:06.62) and coming in second in the 500 Free (5:09.62) and third in the 200 Fly (2:06.12).
  • Schnell came away with a win in the 50 Free, swimming a time of 23.94 that just edged Jamie Cornwell’s time of 23.99. Volk joined the redshirt senior and freshman, respectively, in the top-five for the event as she swam a 24.48 for fourth place.
  • Cornwell and Schnell flipped places in the 100 Free, as Cornwell earned his first collegiate victory with a time of 51.74. Schnell swam a time of 52.29.
  • In the 1000 Free, Abby Maguire finished third with a time of 10:43.25.
  • Dukes took home third to fifth place in the 100 Back, with Gring earning a third-place finish with a time of 57.59 and was followed by Park (58.06) and Lauren Aylmer (58.27).
  • Another JMU three-through-fifth place finish came in the 200 Back from the trio of Aylmer (2:05.22), Park (2:06.45) and Gring (2:06.66).
  • Cottrell finished second in the 100 Fly, swimming a time of 57.47.

“Today was a good way to start our season. The coaching staff couldn’t be happier with our team’s collective positive and supportive energy, both swimming and diving. It’s early in the season and we have a lot of work still left, but the girls are in a good spot and we’re really excited about where this season is going to go.”

Up Next
The Dukes will be back in the pool on Saturday, Oct. 29 as they host East Carolina at Savage Natatorium. The diving portion will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the swimming portion at 12:30 p.m.

WASHINGTON, D.C – The Old Dominion Men’s and Women’s swimming teams fell to George Washington on Saturday afternoon, the women’s team also lost to James Madison on Saturday. The Colonials defeated the men 167 to 95 While the women’s fell to the Dukes 210 to 83 and lost to the Colonials, 232 to 61

The men’s 400 medley relay team of Gustaf HanssonBryce MortimerLiam Redman, and Ryan Lincicum came in third with a time of 3:28.69.

In the women’s 1000 freestyle Brynn Jewell finished fourth with a time of 10:46.78

In the men’s 1000 freestyle Carson Doll finished second and Grey Bremer finished third. Doll had a time of 9:53.20 and Bremer had a time of 9:54.74.

Summer Miln finished fourth in the women’s 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.35.

In the men’s 200 freestyle Noah Wilkins finished first and Ryan Lincicum finished third. Wilkins finished in 1:42.01 and Lincicum finished in 1:45.37.

Gustaf Hansson finished third in the men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 51.58.

In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Tara Enneking placed third and finished with a time of 1:07.24.

Bryce Mortimer finished first in the men’s 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.60.

In the women’s 50 freestyle Tara Enneking placed third with a time of 24.27.

Noah Wilkins placed first in the men’s 50 freestyle with a time of 21.42.

In the women’s 100 freestyle, Summer Miln finished fourth with a time of 53.25

In the men’s 100 freestyle Noah Wilkins finished first with a time of 46.37.

In the men’s 200 backstroke Ben Schattenberg finished second and Jacob Cobb finished third. Schattenberg finished with a time of 1:55.47 and Cobb finished with a time of 1:56.65.

Tara Enneking placed third in the women’s 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.22.

In the men’s 200 breaststroke Bryce Mortimer finished first with a time of 2:07.22.

In the women’s 100 butterfly Martina Ciriesi finished third with a time of 58.29.

Bryce Mortimer finished third in the men’s 200 IM with a time of 1:57.74.

The men’s 200 freestyle relay team of Ryan LincicumLiam RedmanRussell Hronek, and Noah Wilkins placed third with a time of 1:25.23.
