CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois’ women’s team went 2-0 against Bellarmine and Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon. The men’s team defeated Valparaiso while falling to Bellarmine at Padovan Pool. The scores were are follows:

Eastern Illinois started off the meet with a win in the women’s 400 yard medley relay with the team of Olivia VieleCorinne StaneartKaylan Ottosen and Autumn Grinter (4:02.82). The men’s team finished in second in that event with the team of Andrew Herman, Marshal Holt, Sebastian Rosales and Dismas Dillon (3:34.44).

Kennedy Darensbourg won the 1000 meter freestyle with a time of 10:54. 76. Ottosen won her first individual race of the season with a victory in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.85). Conner Colston also won the men;s 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.54.

Herman won his first event in his EIU career with a win in the 100 yard backstroke (52.58). EIU had the top two finishers in the women’s 50 yard freestyle with first place finisher Camryn Lewis (24.12) and second place finisher Grinter (25.24).

Dillon had his first first place victory of the season in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.47. Connor Colston finished in third in that event with a final time of 21.71. Lewis collected her second victory of the meet in the women’s 100 yard freestyle (54.23). Grinter finished third in that event with a time of 55.29. Colston also finished first in the men’s 100 freestyle (48.16).

Darensbourg finished first in the 500 yard freestyle for her second first place finish of the meet (5:22.60). Ottosen and Viele also finished first and second in the 100 yard butterfly with times of 59.98 and 1:00.01.

The women’s team capped off their afternoon with a victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a team of Ottosen, Izzy Glasgow, Grinter and Lewis with a time of 1:39.90. The men’s team finished in second in their relay with a team of Colston, Jacob Wienants , Rosales and Dillon (1:26.79).

EIU will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Ball State in Muncie, Ind. for their first dual meet of the season.

CHARLESTON, Ill. — Bellarmine swimming completed a successful weekend of competition, with the men’s and women’s teams each earning their first dual victories of the season.

Both squads faced off in against Eastern Illinois and Valparaiso in double dual format at EIU’s Padovan Pool.

The Bellarmine women defeated Valparaiso 159-69 and lost to host EIU 148-111.  The men’s team earned two victories, topping EIU 157-104 and Valparaiso 181-80.

The Knights certainly impressed, with seven men’s swimmers and six women’s swimmers winning their individual events.

Winners for the women’s team included:
Lauren Diercks – 100 backstroke (59.02) and 200 backstroke (2:09.79)
Alexandra Pierce – 100 breaststroke (1:07.74) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.75)
Caroline McMillin – 200 butterfly (2:15.66) and 400 IM (4:48.68)

Winners for the men’s team included:
400 Medley Relay – Blake WhiteleyJohn Paul MetznerJacob Dray, and Will O’Connor (3:31.45)

The Knights will try and build off their season-best performance next weekend in their first home meet of the season – The Bellarmine Invitational.  Action will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Mary T Meagher Aquatic Center.
