UNH Wildcats Improve To 2-0 With Big Win At Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Wildcats won 17 of the 19 events as the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team defeated Central Connecticut, 245.5-107.5, in a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday at Jack Suydam Natatorium.

The Wildcats are now 2-0 overall, while CCSU falls to 1-1.

RESULTS
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Graduate student Shelby Kasse (Hoofddorp, Netherlands) was a triple individual winner placing first in the 200 IM (2:09.63), 100 backstroke (58.00) and 200 backstroke (2:03.61) as she won the 200 back by more than six seconds.
  • Freshman Sophia Routzahn (Frederick, Md.), senior captain Madison Linstedt (Marion, Ohio) and senior captain Jamy Lum (Honolulu, Hawaii) were outstanding each winning two events. Routzahn won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.27) and the 200 breaststroke (2:22.84), while Linstedt captured the 200 butterfly (2:08.78) and the 400 IM (4:35.68). Lum was strong in the distance events placing first in the 500 freestyle (5:12.48) and 1000 freestyle (10:41.08).
  • Four Wildcats each won one event with freshman Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) winning the 50 freestyle (24.63), senior Olivia Stille (Stockholm, Sweden) taking the 100 freestyle (53.44), sophomore Emma Clarke (Avon, N.Y.) posting a career-best score of 225.75 in the three-meter diving event and sophomore Chiara Maria Pradissitto (Milan, Italy) finishing first in the 100 butterfly (57.74).
  • UNH dominated the relays winning all four events. Routzahn, Pradissitto, sophomore Maddie Fritz (Lansdale, Pa.) and Mahoney recorded a winning time of 1:38.46 in the 200 freestyle relay.
  • The 400 medley relay team of Kasse, Routzahn, junior Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.) and Stille posted a time of 3:54.29 to take the event.
  • Kasse, Routzahn, McKinney and Mahoney won the 200 medley relay with a mark of 1:47.76.
  • The 400 freestyle relay team of McKinney, Stille, Pradissitto and Mahoney concluded the meet with a winning time of 3:34.16.

The Central Connecticut women’s swimming and diving completed its two-day dual with New Hampshire on Saturday at Suydam Natatorium. The Wildcats finished with a 245.5-107.5 victory.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • Gabi Wroblewski and Morgan O’Hara placed second and third in the 400 Im, at 4:37.15 and 4:40.79, ranking in the top-two in the NEC this season
  • Megan Dunigan’s swim of 2:10.41 in the 200 back was good for third on Saturday and is amongst the top-five in the conference
  • Elyse Boothroyd finished second on the high board at 225.53 points, just .22 shy of first place
  • Cassidy Stotler was third in the 100-butterfly, 58.50, which should rank tops in the NEC
  • Ella Discala finished second in the 200-breaststroke with a swim of 2:29.01, good for a top-five time in the conference best-time list
