The Houston Cougars hosted Tulane for a women’s dual meet on Saturday, November 5, emerging victorious in a 118-86 decision. It was a short-format meet, featuring only the 100s of the non-freestyle strokes.

Houston had a great performance in the 400 IM, where Alondra Ortiz posted a 4:24.46 for the win. Teammate Sophie Anderson came in second, swimming a 4:25.50.

Anna Ervin picked up a win for Houston in the 50 free, clocking a 24.23 to finish just ahead of fellow Cougar Mary Catherine Jurica, who took second in 24.31.

Audrey McKinnon led a 1-2 punch by Houston in the 100 breast, swimming a 1:03.86. Flo Peters swam a 1:05.19 for second, while another Cougar, Henrietta Fangli, swam a 1:04.69, but competed exhibition (not for points). Houston’s breaststroke group showed its depth, as Sophie Anderson posted a 1:05.29, also swimming exhibition.

The 100 fly went similarly to the 100 breast. Houston’s Abbie Alvarez won the race in 55.73, while teammate Adelaide Meuter took second in 57.25. There were a pair of Cougars racing exhibition: Noor El Gendy clocked a 56.73 and Landry Hadder finished in 57.43.

The Cougars swept the relays as well. Emma Wright, Jenna Kerkman, Alondra Ortiz, and Mary Catherine Jurica teamed up to win the 200 free relay in 1:36.30. In the 400 medley relay, Houston’s Landry Hadder, Flo Peter, Abbie Alvarez, and Maddie Wright combined for a 3:47.65, winning by over two seconds.

Mia Waters and Katie Deininger were a dynamic duo for Houston on the boards. In 1-meter diving, Waters led the field with a score of 313.13. Deininger finished second, posting a score of 308.85. The roles reversed in 3-meter, with Deininger totaling 293.33 points, just ahead of Waters’ 290.55.

Tulane sophomore Sam Krew had an excellent meet, winning both her individual events. She started out with a win in the 200 free, clocking a 1:52.52 to beat out Houston’s Emma Wright. Krew then went on to swim a 52.71 in the 100 free, touching just ahead of Cougar Mary Catherine Jurica (52.83). Both of Krew’s swims marked season bests for the sophomore.

Tulane also picked up a win in the 500 free, where freshman Elena Gingras posted a 5:03.30. Houston’s Eden Humphrey came in second at 5:05.60. This meet featured the 1650 free instead of the 1000 free, and Humphrey took full advantage of that, speeding to victory in the mile with a 17:19.73.

Tulane’s Danielle Titus won the 100 back in 56.89.
