FIU Sweeps AAC Weekly Women’s Swim & Dive Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving awards.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Christie Chue, Sophomore, FIU

In meets against Liberty on Oct. 28 and Illinois on Nov. 4, Chue picked up five first-place finishes out of six individual events she competed in. She swept the breaststroke events in both meets and won the 400-yard individual medley against the Fighting Illini. In the 200-yard breaststroke, she broke an FIU pool record against Liberty in a time of 2:15.01 and then re-broke the time against Illinois in 2:14.68. That time also ranks first in The American this season.

WOMEN’S DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Maha Gouda, Graduate Student, FIU

Gouda swept the diving events in meets against Liberty and Illinois, earning NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks in all six events. She broke the FIU pool record on the 1-meter boards against Illinois with a score of 338.33. Her best mark on 3-meter also came against the Fighting Illini with a score of 332.48, while her best score on platform was 291.00 against Liberty.
