UC Santa Barbara Dominate In Sweep Over UC San Diego, Pepperdine Women

MALIBU, Calif.– The UC Santa Barbara men’s(2-0) and women’s(2-1) swimming earned a double dual win over UC San Diego and Pepperdine. The men’s final score against UC San Diego was 187.5-74.5. The women’s scores were 221.5-39.5 against Pepperdine and 221-40 against UC San Diego.

The men started and ended dominantly, taking the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay. Swam by Matthew DriscollAlec CullenJustin Wong, and Sean Gutowski, the 200 Medley Relay finished in 1:31.26. As the last event of the dual, Austin Sparrow, Gutowski, Wong, and Driscoll did not falter in the 400 Free Relay, taking the top spot in 3:00.51. Driscoll would also take first in the 100 Back(48.97) and 50 Free(20.70). Cullen finished on top in the 100(56.35) and 200 Breast(2:03.71). Sparrow also finished first in the 100 Free(45.47) and 200 Free(1:27.92).

Other first places for the men’s came from Dominic FalconKyle Brill, and Matt Vinh. Falcon recorded a win in the 200 Fly(1:50.16). Brill came in first for the 200 Back(1:47.02) and 400 IM(3:57.13). Vinh came in first for the 1650 Free(15:56.55).

The women were just as dominant, taking first in the 400 Free Relay (3:26.84) with the team consisting of Nina Statler, Tyryn Empremsilapa, Reagan Nibarger, and Samantha Banos. Statler also took first in the 50(23.47) and 200 Free(1:51.98). Nibarger would emerge victorious in the 100 Free(51.33). Banos finished first in the 200 Fly(2:00.70) event as well as the 400 IM(4:24.73).

Other individual wins came from Ashley Ray taking the top spot in the 100 Breast(1:03.78) and Hazel Derr in the 200 Back(2:02.50).

Next up, the UCSB men and women swimmers will head east to St. George, Utah to participate in the Utah Tech Invite which will start on Wednesday, November 16 and conclude Saturday, November 19.
