CCSA Finalist Caleb Wyninger Announces Transfers From ODU To Rider University

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Caleb Wyninger has transferred from Old Dominion University to Rider University with two seasons of NCAA eligibility remaining.

Wyninger swam for ODU for three seasons, from 2018-2021, and sat out of the 2021-22 season.

As I finished my college career out at ODU, I wanted to finish with a dynasty program with a team culture like Rider has. I wanted to have a bigger impact and after talking with Coach Fletcher, I felt as if I was going to get that. I decided to transfer to Rider University mainly because of the success that they have had at the mid-major D1 level.

Prior to ODU, Wyninger swam for Spartan Swimming in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He is a former Louisiana State record holder, a six-time Louisiana Division III state champion, and a three-time Louisiana year-round state champion.

During his time with the Monarchs, Wyninger was a Coast Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) finalist all three years of competition. He was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2020 and 2021, also earning the C-USA Academic Medal in 2020.

During his last year of competition at ODU, Wyninger swam the 500 free, 1650 free, 200 fly, and 400 freestyle relay at the CCSA Championships. He finished 12th in the 500 free (4:48.50) and 13th in the 1650 (17:22.32).

Best Times SCY:

  • 100 fly: 51.86
  • 200 fly: 1:51.72
  • 200 free: 1:42.97
  • 500 free: 4:45.52
  • 1650 free: 16:23.38
  • 200 IM: 1:57.82
  • 400 IM: 4:10.51

Rider University, located in Lawrence, New Jersey, competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Led by coaches Steven Fletcher and Shannon Daly, the men’s program has won 10 straight MAAC titles and is chasing their 11th this season.

At the 2022 MAAC Championships, Wyninger’s current best times would have placed him in the B-final for most races. In the 200 fly, his best time of 1:51.72 would have put him 7th, coming in 2nd for Rider behind current junior Bobby Irwin.

Wyninger has competed in two meets for Rider so far this season. On October 8th in a dual meet against Seton Hall, he finished sixth in the 500 (5:00.83) and fourth in the 200 fly (1:58.83). On October 29th against Marist, he swam the 200 fly in 1:57.33.
