Delaware & La Salle Women Tie, Blue Hen Men Go 2-0 In Double Dual With Rider

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle swimming and diving faced off in a dual meet against Rider and the University of Delaware tonight and the women beat Rider 243-50 vs. Rider, tied the University of Delaware 149.5-149.5, as the men earned their first win of the season against Rider winning 174-122.

How the Swimmers Finished –

  • The women’s strong overall performance was highlighted by six total victories in the swimming events.
  • Letizia Baldessari got her first individual victory this season in the women’s 1,000-yard freestyle.
  • George Williamson took first in the men’s 1,000-yard freestyle for the men.
  • Gabriela Herbreder is continuing to perform strong this season as she won the women’s 200-yard freestyle.
  • The men’s 200-yard freestyle was won by Zack Miller with a time of 1:43.69.
  • On the men’s side, Zack Wolbert is also maintaining his impressive start to the season after winning the men’s 200-yard butterfly.
  • Toni Rafferty swam a time of 23.90 in the women’s 50-yard freestyle, enough to get her the top spot.
  • In the men’s 50-yard freestyle, Felix Jedbratt got first with a time of 21.04.
  • Jedbratt also won the men’s 100-yard freestyle at a pace of 46.03.
  • Herbreder got her second win of the meet in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke.
  • Raffeerty also won twice tonight, the second event being in the women’s 100-yard butterfly.
  • The men’s 100-yard butterfly was won by Wolbert at a time of 50.14.
  • Wolbert took a third first-place finish last night in the men’s 200-yard IM.
  • The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay was won by La Salle. The team consisted of Tori Fenn, Emma van Selm, Gabriela Herbreder, and Toni Rafferty.

How the Divers Finished –

  • La Salle’s divers continued to impress during this meet winning three total events.
  • Phoebe Shaya swept in her performances in the women’s three-meter dive, and the one-meter dive with scores of 287.25 and 253.90, respectively.
  • Sam Henninger got the top spot in the men’s one-meter dive at a score of 291.80.

Up Next –

  • Both teams will be traveling to Lewisburg, Pa. to compete in the Bucknell Invitational starting next Thursday, November 17th.

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The University of Delaware women’s swimming and diving program defeated Rider, 244.00-46.00, and tied La Salle at 149.50 on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022. Erin Shema highlighted Delaware with three first-place finishes.

Shema finished in first place in the 100 back (57.18) for the third time this season. She also placed first in the 100 free (52.43) and in the 200 IM (2:05.88).
In the 200 back, Cristin Earley came in first place with a time of 2:05.61 and placed third (58.94) in the 100 back.

Mira Selling finished in first place in the 200 fly (2:04.02) for the third time this season. Julia Cichowska finished right behind in second (2:09.02), while Alexandra Misikova came in fourth place (2:11.41). Selling also had a strong showing in the 100 fly with a second-place finish (57.50) as four Blue Hens came in the top six. Cichowska (58.64), Aislinn Mitchell (58.72), and Misikova (59.17) all came in fourth, fifth, and sixth place.

Mania Tasakou highlighted the Blue Hens in the 100 breast with a first-place finish (1:04.77). Erin Lillis (1:07.53) and Jenna Leonard (1:08.25) finished in third and fourth place. Delaware also had strong performances in the 200 breast with four of the top six finishes, with Tasakou placing second (2:20.84). Leonard came in third place (2:26.57), while Lillis came in fifth place (2:26.96) and Gately came in sixth place (2:29.40).

Kaitlyn Sullivan (24.94), Peyton Rautzhan (25.17), and Nicole Chiappa (25.21) all finished in fifth, sixth, and seventh place in the 50 free. Also in the 100 free, Natalie Dobrzykowski came in fourth place (53.19). Dobrzykowski (1:55.17), Bella Granetzke (1:56.60), and Mitchell (1:57.26) finished in third-fourth-fifth in the 200 free.  Anthi Lyra finished in first place in the 500 free (5:04.25) for the second consecutive meet. In the 1000 free, Lyra finished in second place (10:24.46), while Charlise Oberholzer finished in fourth place (11:04.21).

In the 200 IM, Lillis placed third (2:12:04), while Earley placed fourth (2:12.44) and Mitchell placed sixth (2:15.87).

In the 200-free relay, the quartet of Lyra, Chiappa, Sullivan, and Selling placed in second with a time of 1:37.32. The 400 medley relay team of Shema, Tasakou, Selling, and Chiappa finished in first place with a time of 3:20.42.

The Blue Hens finished in four of the top five spots in the 1-meter dive, led by a second-place finish by Alex Pastris (243.20). Rowan O’Sullivan (218.10), Ella Drazek (217.19), and Jordan Campbell (213.19) all followed. In the 3-meter dive, Pastris (262.65), O’Sullivan (248.95), Campbell (228.10), and Drazek (203.60) all placed in second, third, fourth, and fifth place.

The Blue Hens will compete at the Bison Invitational from Nov. 18-Nov. 20 in Lewisburg, Penn.

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – Delaware’s men’s swimming and diving team defeated La Salle, 168.50-103.50, and Rider, 205.50-93.50, on Nov. 11, 2022. Delaware recorded first-place finishes in seven events.

Gavin Currie came in first place in the 200 back (1:50.45) and second place (50.62) in the 100 back.

Simeon Sabev placed second in the 100 fly (50.69), while T.J. Yaglenski placed fifth (51.45). Simeon Sabev also came in second place in the 200 fly (1:52.92) and Jack Hattery came in fourth place (1:56.78).

Toni Sabev came in first place in the 100 breast (56.41), his third straight first-place finish in the 100 breast. Evan Frick placed right behind him in second (58.01).
Frick led a quartet of Blue Hens in the 200 breast with a first-place finish (2:04.71). Hattery (2:09.57) placed third, Jack Gibson (2:10.05), and Jack Zapp (2:10.49) placed fifth.

Matvei Namakonov took second place in the 50 free (21.21), while Luke Rautzhan came in sixth place (21.48). Miguel Vasquez (46.58), Namakonov (46.89), and Rautzhan (47.25) all finished in third, fourth, and fifth place in the 100 free. Andrew Taylor (1:43.72), Jacob Replogle (1:43.75), and Vasquez (1:44.15) finished in second-third-fourth in the 200 free. In the 500 free, Andrew Taylor came in first place (4:40.16) and Replogle came in second place (4:41.96). Kevin Lewke rounded out the top five with a time of 4:49.96. In the 1000 free, Dylan Smolders finished in second place (9:41.56), while Lewke finished in fourth place (10:06.54).

In the 200 IM, Taylor paced Delaware with a second-place finish (1:55.78). Toni Sabev (1:57.03) came in fourth place, Frick (1:57.24), and Smolders (1:57.65) all came in fourth-fifth-sixth.

In the 200-free relay, the quartet of Rautzhan, Simeon Sabev, Vasquez, and Namakonov placed in first with a time of 1:23.39.
The 400 medley relay team of Currie, Toni SabevSimeon Sabev, and Vasquez finished in first place with a time of 3:20.42.

Philip Townsend led Delaware in the 1-meter dive with a second-place finish (247.00), while Kevin Siegfried had a score of 225.95 and Josh Shipley with 191.30.
Siegfried (284.30) and Townsend (275.30) led the 3-meter dive with first and second-place finishes.

The Blue Hens will compete at the Bison Invitational from Nov. 18-Nov. 20 in Lewisburg, Penn.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team dropped a pair of dual meets to La Salle, 243-50, and Delaware, 244-46, as part of a tri-meet hosted by La Salle Friday evening. The Broncs fall to 0-5 on the season, while the Explorers move to 2-1-1 and the Blue Hens are now 5-0-1 on the year.

Three Broncs earned fifth-place finishes to lead the Broncs. Ashlee Limbacher took fifth in the 1,000-free.

Aviah Dahlgren (Honesdale, PA/Wyoming Seminary College Prep) also had a fifth place finish in the 200-back.

Logan Wilson (Muskego, WI/Waukesha South) had the Broncs final fifth-place finish, with a strong swim in the 200-IM.

– Dahlgren was also eighth in the 200-free.
– Sarah Fondacaro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took eighth in the 100-breast.
– Kylie McMahon (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s) was eighth in the 200-fly.
– Connar Melcher (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) finished eighth in both the 50-free and 100-free.
– Karyn Creelman (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) was seventh in the 1-meter.
– Gianna Farina (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) claimed eighth in the 200-breast.
– Paola Carlesso (Caracas, Venezuela/The New School Medellin/Colegio Simon Bolivar) took sixth in the 500-free.
– Maddy Altieri (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) was sixth in the 3-meter.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team fell to both La Salle, 174-122, and Delaware, 205.50-93.50, in a dual meet hosted by La Salle on Friday night.

Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) picked up the lone win for the Broncs in the 100-back. The senior touched the wall at 50.26. Racevicius added a second-place finish in the 200-back.

The Broncs got a third-place finish from Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) in the 1,000-free.

In the 200-fly, Bobby Irwin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) took third. Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) was third in the 50-free.

In the diving well, Sean Binning (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) was third in the 1-meter and fourth in the 3-meter.

David Cooper (Spring, TX/Klein Oak) placed second in the 200-breast. Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy) was third in the 100-fly. In the 200-IM David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) finished third.

– Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) was seventh in the 200-free.
– Andrew Iannacone (Yardley, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) placed fourth in the 100-breast.
