Olympic bronze medalist Noe Ponti put on a show across several men’s events at the 2022 Swiss Short Course Championships over the weekend. The one-time NC State commit logged decisive victories across the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events in Sion.
In the 50m sprint, Ponti put up a time of 22.63 as the swimmer of the field to get under the 24-second barrier. Ponti’s time came within .09 of his own national record of 22.52, a result he produced in the heats of the event at the 2021 FINA Short Course World Championships.
Ponti’s next victim was the 100m fly, where the Swiss ace hit a mark of 50.05 as a time that checks in among his top 10 personal performances. Ponti owns the Swiss standard with his lifetime best of 49.38 he registered just last month at the Berlin stop of the FINA World Cup Series.
Finally, in the men’s 200m butterfly, Ponti also dominated the domestic field, posting a result of 1:52.57 to win by over 5 seconds.
Two national records bit the dust on the men’s side, courtesy of Thierry Bollin and Roman Mityukov.
For 22-year-old Bollin, he became the fastest Swissman ever in the 50m back, hitting a gold medal-worthy time of 23.55. That sliced .02 off of the previous national record of 23.57 Lang Fiori put on the books way back in 2011.
Bollin also topped the 100m backstroke podium here, getting to the wall in a time of 51.34. That’s within striking distance of his own national mark of 50.95 he scored in 2019.
As for Mityukov, the 22-year-old snagged a new lifetime best and Swiss national record in the 200m backstroke. Mityukov grabbed gold in 1:52.74, overtaking the previous national standard of 1:52.88 Rauftlin Peter produced 9 years ago.
Mityukov split 26.65/28.88/28.60/28.61 to get to the wall 4 seconds ahead of the competition. Mityukov also topped the men’s 100m IM podium in a time of 54.27.
Lena Kreundl was a multiple event winner on the women’s side, reaping the top prize in the 100m free, 200m free, 100m IM and 400m IM.
In the 100m free, Kreundl posted a time of 54.65 while she scored gold in the 2free in 1:59.64. Her 100m IM time of 1:00.44 and result of 4:42.11 in the 400m IM were also good enough to beat the field and add to her hardware haul.
Ace Lisa Mamie swept the breaststroke events, taking the 50m in 30.82, the 100m in 1:06.31 and the 200m in 2:22.71.
