SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle U women’s swim took on Pacific Lutheran at home on senior night, defeating the Lutes 196-36.
“I’m really excited about the results from today’s meet” said Head Coach Joe Dykstra “It was great to honor our seniors who have been through so much in their time here. After a month off from competition and going through our hardest training block of the year, I thought we might be a little rusty, but the results say otherwise. We got the chance to see some of our athletes compete in events they normally don’t do and they did a terrific job!”
The Redhawks started off strong, winning the very first event of the meet, the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Lydia Genson, Sarah Cook, Nohea Kamuu, and Sammy Mosier finished in a time of 1:51.18 for the first place finish.The women also won the 200 Free Relay, with the team of Cook, Isabella Guadiamos, Genson, and Mosier finishing in a time of 1:40.69.
In addition to great relay finishes, the Redhawks also had many first place individual finishes, with some athletes winning multiple events. Maggie Robben had a busy day, as she finished first in the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, and 200 IM, finishing in 1:09.02, 2:28.67, and 2:12.11 respectively.
Sammy Mosier won both the 50 Free and 100 Free with short turnaround time. Mosier was able to finish the 50 Free in 24.53 and the 100 Free in 53.84 with only the Men’s 50 Free in between her two efforts.
True freshman Sarah Cook continued to impress in her first colligate season, as she picked up two wins in both the 100 Fly and and 200 Fly, clocking in times of 58.02 and 2:08.58 respectively.
Other event winners included Emilia Culberson in the 200 Free (1:58.62), Aubrey Chang in the 100 Back (1:00.93), Danika Himes in the 200 Back (2:10.53), and Cassie Koester in the 500 Free (5:20.09).
The Redhawks will travel south to Tacoma, Washington, as they will take on Puget Sound on Tuesday, January 10.

The Redhawk men swept both relay events in the meet. In the 200 Medley Relay, the quartet of Michael Luna, Brendan Ryan, Eric Thomure, and Nicholas Imig took the win with a time of 1:35.90. The Redhawks also took first in the 200 Free Relay, when the team of Imig, Luna, Emmett Moore, and Connor Barringer clocked in a time of 1:27.21.
Cole Lanting led the way for the Redhawks, as he took first place in the 100 Back, 100 Fly, and the 200 IM. The sophomore finished the races in 53.28, 52.04, and 2:03.97, respectively.
Nicholas Imig socred some big points for the Redhawks as well, as he would finished first in the 100 Breast and 100 Free, finishing both races in times of 59.50 and 45.38, respectively. Michael Luna would also take two first place finishes, as he would win the 1000 Free and 200 Back with times of 9:36.91 and 2:01.49, respectively.
Other event winners on the day included Jaxon Gonzales in the 200 Free (1:48.58), Eric Thomure in the 200 Fly (2:02.51), Brendan Ryan in the 200 Breast (2:09.50), and Mark Blankley in the 500 Free (4:58.00).
The Redhawks will travel south to Tacoma, Washington, as they will take on Puget Sound on Tuesday, January 10.

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men’s and women’s swimming teams returned to action for the first time in over a month, competing in a dual meet against Division I Seattle University on Saturday.
“It’s never an easy ask to go against a quality team in the Seattle RedHawks. They came prepared and raced us well, but the Lutes did a fine job to kick off 2023 in style,” said Head Coach Andrew Lum.
“We had a tough turnaround with a very difficult training block in San Diego for a training trip, and the start of J-Term classes this week. The Lutes did what they always do best, game it up, win the support battle, and respect the competition with the highest regards.”
Malia Wisham was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in one minute, 58.05 seconds with Jersey Razzano finishing fifth in the same event in 2:09.54. Wisham additionally finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.92 and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.12).
Annika Eisele was third in the 100-yard breastroke (1:15.23) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.10) while Sidney Chan-Orcutt was third in the 50-yard freestyle (25.45) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.98). Reina Kim was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.06).
On the men’s side, Devin Stanley placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (56.81) while the 200-yard freestyle relay team closed out the meet with a third place showing after touching the wall in 1:33.08.
Na’inoa Loo was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. logging a time of 1:54.70 with Charlie Cutter fifth in 1:59.85. Ben Thompson was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.21) while Tyler Tanaka was fourth (51.30) and Loo fifth (51.73) in the 100-yard freestyle. Tanaka additionally placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.64 with Loo fifth in 57.33.
“We’re looking forward to resuming conference competition next week against Pacific and Willamette.”
The Lutes resume the Northwest Conference dual meet season on Friday, hosting Pacific University at the PLU Pool.
