SALT LAKE CITY – Summer Stanfield and Evan VanBrocklin both snagged a pair of victories and helped lead the University of Utah swimming and diving team past the Colorado Mesa Mavericks, as the Utah women triumphed, 128-38, and the men won, 112-52, on Friday afternoon inside the Ute Natatorium.

“I think we competed really well,” said head coach Jonas Persson. “It was one of those meets where we thought we could walk in and swim a few events and race well. Some people had to step up and they stepped up in every way. No one was complaining, everyone was competing hard, lots of attitudes and smiles and we ended up doing really well. I’m not surprised because I know we can do it, I’m just happy that we actually stepped up and did what we needed to do.”

Persson watched his team take the top spot in 16 of 18 events on Friday, including first place finishes by Stanfield in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:52.18, and 400 individual medley, which she finished in 4:23.05.
