UC Davis Women Power To 141-78 Win Over Cal Poly

Davis, Calif.  The Aggies participated in their second dual meet in as many days as they took on Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at Schaal Aquatics Center. The Aggies defeated the Mustangs 141-78.

Senior Anna Lee was again the top scorer of the meet for the Aggies as she won two individual events and was a part of the ‘A’ team that won the 200 yard medley relay. Lee won the 200 yard butterfly and 100 yard butterfly. Sophomore Katie McLain won two events as well – 200 yard freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle.

Six Aggies (sophomore Christy Douglas (100 yard freestyle), senior Caroline Eckel (100 yard backstroke), senior Dani Fasan (100 yard breaststroke), freshman Emma Hermeston (200 yard backstroke), sophomore Haley Hoefer (200 yard breaststroke) and sophomore Sam Rhodes (1,000 yard freestyle)) won one event apiece.

The Aggies will be back in action at Schaal Aquatics Center on Friday, Jan. 20 at 3 P.M. PT as they are set to host UC Santa Barbara, before taking on Fresno State on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 12 P.M. PT.

DAVIS, Calif. — Senior Kaia Anderson (pictured above) grabbed a pair of victories in the 400-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle to lead the Cal Poly women’s swim team during Sunday’s dual at MPSF rival UC Davis.

The Mustangs dropped the dual against the Aggies 141-78.

In the 400 IM, Cal Poly swept the top three places as Anderson placed first, junior Kelly McDermott second and senior Samantha Rankin. The two individual victories against UC Davis give Anderson a total of four this season.

Rankin also secured second in the 200 breaststroke and McDermott earned third in the 200 backstroke.

Freshmen Kiersten WeilerCourtney Cross and Melia Costa and senior Amy Harter helped the Mustangs finish first in the 200 free relay (1:40.62). Individually, Weiler took third in the 100 back, Cross captured third in the 200 free and Harter snagged third in the 50 free.

Freshman Abby Islay grabbed a pair of third-place finishes in the 500 free and 1000 free.

The men hit the pool in Davis as well for some friendly intrasquad competition to wrap up the weekend. Seniors Brian Wong and Ryan Iannaccone, junior Ryan Trichler and freshmen Lucas MeneghettiDrew Huston and Alex Seybold all captured individual wins.

Cal Poly returns home to host a Senior Day dual with UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, Jan. 21, at noon. It will be the Mustangs’ final action before heading to Utah for the conference championships on Feb. 15-18.
