ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland Swim and Dive teams finished their last event of the weekend this afternoon against Wayne state resulting in a win for both men’s and women’s teams with scores of 174-126 for the women, and 174-124 for the men.
The team delivered first-place victories for 18 of the 32 completed events in the Matthaei Natatorium.
The women’s A relay team kicked it off with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of (1:46.78), and, notably, also closed out the competition with a speedy time of (1:37.68) in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Oakland’s Ben Davis went on to finish first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of (9:43.82), but he also kept this winning momentum going as he dominated the 500-yard freestyle with a time of (4:43.46).
Following were the shorter events including the 50-yard backstroke claimed by Susan LaGrand in the women’s event with a time of (25.38), and for the men’s event, Sofus Balladone took the gold with a time of (23.60). LaGrand then returned to the pool to grab the first-place spot in the 100-backstroke with a time of (56.16).
Moving forward to the 50-yard breaststroke Taylor Bailey swam in at a time of (29.88) to claim the first-place title for the women. Not only this but she jumped back in to earn her win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a first-place time of (1:04.52). On the men’s team, Oakland’s Christian Bart made his mark with a finishing time of (55.41) to win it.
The women’s 100-yard butterfly event was taken by Jordyn Shipps as she secured the speedy (56.31) win in the lanes. She then later went on to win the 100-yard IM with a time of (58.88). And notably, Sophia Davis earned her win in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of (25.87).
Marko Khotynetskyi secured the win in the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of (49.03), and coupled this with his second win of the afternoon in the 100-yard IM with a time of (51.01).
The Golden Grizzlies will compete in their last regular season meet against Cleveland State on Saturday, January 28th at 1:00 pm at home in the Oakland Aquatic Center.

DETROIT — The Wayne State University women’s swimming and diving squad hosted Oakland on Saturday in the final home meet of the 2022-23 regular season. The Grizzlies defeated the Warriors on their Senior Day, though, winning by a score of 174-126.
