D3 Bowdoin Performs Well In Non-Scored Dual With Maine

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams posted a myriad of top results in a non-scoring dual meet with the University of Maine on Saturday afternoon.

Both the men and women won the vast majority of events against the Division I Black Bears.

Women’s Meet Highlights

  • Bowdoin took first and second in the 400 medley relay and also secured a relay win in the 200 free.
  • Elizabeth Walsh and Florence Millet finished one-two in the 400 IM (4:27.21 and 4:47.21).
  • The Polar Bears swept the podium in the 100 fly as Walsh finished first, followed by Cassie Maroney, and Liv Smith.
  • Walsh was joined by Ella Martin to finish first and second in the 50 fly (26.95 and 26.96).
  • Brynn Wright won the 200 free by four full seconds with a time of 1:57.60.
  • Wright and Carolyn Casey went one-two in the 200 IM.
  • Live Smith won the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 28.20 and Emilie Grand’Pierre did the same in the 50 breaststroke (31.10).
  • Ella Riccio touched just before Wright in the 50 free to finish 25.04 and 25.18.
  • Tatum Zupnik captured first in the 100 free (53.55).
  • Erin Lamping swam a strong 500 free to take the top spot with a time of 5:21.70.

Men’s Meet Highlights

  • Just like the women, the men finished first and second in the 400 medley relay. The men also took a top finish in the 200 free relay to close out the meet.
  • Bowdoin swept the 400 IM with Brim Peabody (4:16.54), Eric Degodny (4:21.15), and Brad Schoenthaler (4:23.57).
  • Alex Grand’Pierre took first in the 50 breaststroke (26.18) and 50 free (21.84).
  • Rhys Edwards earned the top finish in the 100 fly (51.64).
  • Dylan Zhang had a pair of victories in the 100 free (48.42) and 200 IM (2:02.70).
  • Bowdoin’s Penn Lee finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.95).
  • Jack Tran had the top 50 fly finish (23.35).

Brunswick, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team competed in a non-scored meet at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. Haylie Carver swept the diving events for the Black Bears while Kayla Loughman and Molly Olzinski each earned individual victories.

Loughman took top honors in the 100 yard backstroke with a winning time of 1:01.42 and added a runner-up place in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 31.13. Olzinski took the gold in the 100 yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:01.81.

Carver placed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with scores of 246.70 and 241.60, respectively.

Rebecca Thompson was the runner-up in the 200 yard freestyle at 2:01.69 and came home third in the 500 yard freestyle with a final time of 5:25.74. Laura Dube also turned in a second and fourth place finish, placing as the runner-up in the 100 freestyle (56.21) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.30).

Syd Loper turned in a pair of third place finishes with bronze showings in the 50 freestyle at 25.76 and the 100 freestyle at 56.44. Liz Stoelzel placed third in the 50 back at 29.93 and turned in a fourth place effort in the 100 back with a final time of 1:04.15.

Madison Edwards (50 back – 28.74), Grace Sheridan (100 breaststroke – 1:11.96), and Sloane Gardner (500 freestyle – 5:25.63) each came home with second place finishes in their events.

Maine’s 200 yard freestyle relay team placed second with a time of 1:43.03 while the 400 yard medley relay team placed third at 4:00.48.

Brunswick, Maine — The University of Maine men’s swimming & diving team earned five individual wins in Saturday’s meet at Bowdoin.

Kaden Kilger scored a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.58 before earning a runner-up mark in the 100 freestyle at 49.22. Liam Blair won the 50 backstroke at 25.37 and placed third in the 100 freestyle with a final time of 49.70.

Scott Klein and Zareck Tello each earned individual victories. Klein earned his victory in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall at 57.06, while Tello earned gold in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:57.19.

DJ Mulligan swept the diving events, winning the 1 meter event with a score of 231.85 while posting a top-mark of 212.30 in the 3 meter.

Nate Teerlinck was the runner up in both the 50 breaststroke (27.72) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.27) while Calvin Comeau added second place showing in the 100 butterfly (53.48) and the 200 IM (2:03.26). Cam Watelet added a runner up mark in the 50 freestyle (22.11) while touching the wall second in the 50 butterfly with a time of 23.67.

Kevin Arpin took bronze in the 50 freestyle at 22.12 and the 50 butterfly with a time of 24.19.

Maine’s 400 yard medley relay team placed third with a time of 3:34.98 while the 200 yard freestyle team took silver at 1:27.07.
